I come from a time when physical media always was very, very special — and with it, so was the magic of the cover art. And I’ve have always admired the artwork coming out of Black Hole Recordings, especially the iconic covers from the sub-labels Magik Muzik and In Trance We Trust, all created by Black Hole co-founder, Arny himself.
So, seeing one of my own images once again being used as the cover of a release is incredibly special to me - a huge thank you to Arny at Black Hole Recordings for believing in my work and for the continued support over the years. It really means a lot. ❤️
I’m super proud of this one.
And a huge thank you to Milkwish as well. I know you’re a fan of my work, and it means a lot to see one of my images become part of yet another of your releases - this time the amazing ‘Lost in Paradise’.
The image was taken at Bombo Quarry, close to Kiama, NSW, Australia — just 25 minutes from where we live. I’ll never forget that morning. I walked down to the quarry in pitch-black darkness, and as the sun slowly began to rise over the ocean, it revealed these incredible rock formations. And then, sitting on top of one of them, was this bird. As part of my Illawarra Sunrise collection, I have named the image ‘Soul Bird’.
It has become one of my all-time favourite photographs. And seeing ‘Soul Bird’ come to life as the cover of a release on Black Hole Recordings’ legendary sub-label Magik Muzik feels very, very special.
