These awards are community oriented, local and accessible. They build community capital. If we want to inspire locals, this kind of award program is essential - it is much better than big glossy efforts sponsored by massive corporations.
We are incredibly proud that North West Country was one of the first business improvement districts in Auckland to create and run its own business awards, a true celebration of local success.
We saw how intimidating entering the bigger awards, like the Westpac Awards, could feel for many of our members, and we wanted to change that. Our goal was simple: make recognition accessible and attainable for everyone.
So, supported by Cherry Events, we launched our own awards programme more than ten years ago. We’ve kept them close to home, always hosted at local venues, featuring local food and drink because that’s what these awards are all about: celebrating our own.
Over the years, the categories have shifted and evolved to reflect the diversity and brilliance of our local businesses, ensuring we shine a spotlight on what truly matters. The awards aren’t about being the biggest or most profitable, they’re about knowing your customers, serving your community, and showing resilience when challenges pop up.
And the celebration itself?
It’s a night of glamour, laughter, and connection, bringing finalists, their teams, and their families together. We’ve proudly handed out more than 300 awards so far, and it means the world to see them displayed in receptions and breakout rooms all over the North West.
The 2025 awards are shaping up to be another incredible celebration. I can’t wait to see who will stand out this year.
We are happy to announce that we will be opening for submissions on July 15th.
