The man, the myth, the legend that is John Farnham has announced he's officially finished his singing career and will no longer take part in live performance.

I was lucky enough to catch him a couple of times over the years, and despite avoiding pop music for much of my youth, you couldn't deny the man had The Voice!

Oh and seeing as your read this far, and I know you're asking, Every Time you Cry with Human Nature is my go-to track, but that's possibly because it came out when I was just starting to take notice of music seriously...

Details on his celebration concert are here https://www.tegdainty.com/tour/john-farnham/

Phil Jamieson at The Royal Oak with Mally, on this day 2021.
I've been lucky enough to shoot Phil solo and with Grinspoon and he's been a true gentleman, even using one of my pics for some gig posters a while back.
Oh and any gig where the muso's end up down with the punters is a good one in my book!

Another truly pinch me moment in my career was receiving an unsolicited email asking if I could shoot some promo work for The Whitlams back in 2020.
The band was returning to the spotlight and had a new album in the works (Sancho) and wanted me to photograph them before Festivale and then their afternoon set there (They opened with No Aphrodisiac!!!)
I was amazed that they'd seen my work and liked my style!
Needless to say it was a simply awesome experience, but in the years since I've shot Tim solo, plus a couple of his concerts concerts, Tim dining with the notorious criminal and excellent storyteller Bertie Kidd and the band at a festival...
Great people, great music, and some photos I truly love.

I posted a couple of weeks back about my love of Neil Finn and how I'd had the privilege of seeing him live both solo and with Crowded House.
I'd also seen his brother Tim twice solo (including once when I was 17 but the gig was meant to be 18+)
Well this week I added Split Enz to the Finn list (I guess I should also add Betchadupa to that list as well)
Tim shone on Time for a Change and Stuff and Nonsense, while Neil and the band sent Message to My Girl into the stratosphere.

"...This is New Zealand’s BEATLES; an impeccably tight band, a world class pair of songwriters and an arena’s worth of timeless tunes."

Split Enz were in a class of their own at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne for the "Forever Enz" tour. Check out Scott Gelston's review and photos below!

If I only had an hour left to listen to music, you could be assured there would be some Neil Finn in the mix.
Arguably the greatest songwriter from this corner of the Pacific, I still find it hard to believe that I've not only had the opportunity to photograph Neil solo and with Crowded House on stage, but also interview Neil for an article many years back and amazingly shoot a backstage portrait and ask for his Auckland coffee suggestions.
Among the highlights pictured his is Neil on his knees at Falls Festival performing Better Be Home soon as the stage was packed up around him and gotten ready for the next act to come on.

The turning of the Fagus. This year has seen an amazing (scary?) block of late Autumn weather with temperatures into the 20's making for some of the best walking conditions imaginable.
I was lucky enough to get two overnight trips in, to Cradle and to The Walls and here's a few snaps from about the place before we get back to posting about music again...
