When the farmer up the road messages and says, "I've got a cow. Do you want him?"

The answer is ....

YES.

A few weeks ago, we welcomed Sebastian into our family, and we are all in love!

I've been dreaming about having a cow for years. Anyone who knows me well knows that's been at the top of my wish list for a very long time.

He's already made fast friends with the goats and Ralphie. He's fluffy, sweet, moody when he's tired, loves a treat, and absolutely melts into a good ear scratch.

Sure, there is now cow poo absolutely everywhere, and we spend a good portion of our day trying not to step in it... but we couldn't be happier.

May brought a lot of lovely moments, but Sebastian joining the family was definitely the highlight. 🤎✨🐄

Hey hey! Welcome if you’re new around here 🤍

I’m Mel , a mum of four amazing kids and five fur babies. I'm a photographer, and after 10 years I still find that weird to say. It's like I'll only feel comfortable saying it when I 'get' there....whatever that means.

A few random things about me…

• I'm a professional over thinker
• I cry in pretty much every movie, no matter the genre.
• Nutella is absolutely my weakness
• I love a cheeky beer
• My music taste is wildly broad… my Spotify Wrapped each year looks genuinely unhinged 🤣 but 'House' music has my heart and I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of it. When I need to slow my nervous system down a little, you’ll find me listening to country.

I struggle hard with imposter syndrome. Like, really hard sometimes. I’m sure my family are sick of hearing me and talking me down off the ledge🫠

But no matter how many times I wonder what on earth I’m doing, how to keep up with social media, late night edit sessions and the general stress of owning my own business. I keep showing up here. Because I truly, deeply love capturing memories for families, in all their stages and it means so much to me to be trusted with that.

One of the things I’ve learnt doing family sessions is that the magic has very little to do with perfect posing.

Give me a family who are happy to cuddle close, laugh loudly, wander barefoot, play together and just lean into the moment any day!

The photos people end up loving most are almost never the perfectly still ones. They’re the giggles, the windblown hair, the sandy feet, the headlock between siblings, the toddler dummy spits, all the things that show your family right now in the stage that it's at 🤍

Finally getting around to sharing this branding session from late last year and honestly… it’s still one of my favourite branding shoots to date.

Photographing other photographers will forever feel like such an honour and also mildly terrifying 😂 There’s always that little voice in my head wondering if I can possibly do justice to someone else’s creative vision. But working with Jess was just SO much fun from start to finish. She is an absolute vibe.

For this session, she knew she didn’t want the same branding photos everyone else was doing. She wanted something that actually felt like her. Edgy, creative, confident, a little funky, a little badass. So we found this incredible warehouse space in the city and she just owned it. Total boss energy while still showing all the different sides of who she is.

This is what I love so much about branding sessions. They don’t have to look like everyone else’s. Your business deserves more than a copy and paste shoot.

There are some people who just feel like truth. Grounded, open, and deeply present. Kayla and Carly are that for me.

I feel incredibly lucky to know them, not just as practitioners, but as the women they are beneath it all. The way they hold space, the way they listen, and the way they move through the world. It’s rare, and it’s real. Being able to photograph them over the years has been so much more than just work.

They have some really beautiful retreats unfolding this year with the next one coming up soon. I highly recommend taking a moment for yourself in this crazy world right now.
And....it's a perfect gift for Mothers Day. Hint hint 😉
