When the star birds don't show up, finding an angle and working with your environment which is your natural studio set is essential. Don't limit yourself to exotic and colourful birds. Make use of shape, texture, colour and lines that could frame a dull bird in an aesthetically pleasing way.

After feeling conflicted about entering Bird Photographer Of Year 2026 (BPOTY), I almost didn't enter at all.

I kept feeling that what I have, wouldn't be sufficient to compete with the formidable entrants in this prestigious competition.

After much second guessing myself, I entered the competition on the last evening before the cut off date last year December, almost at midnight.
