These tiny alpine speed demons can disappear between the rocks in about half a second. One second they’re right there

gone. Then somehow they’re 20 feet away staring at you like a statue.

Pikas live high in the mountains, don’t hibernate, and spend the warmer months basically speed-running winter prep by collecting plants and building little “hay piles” to eat when the snow comes.

Tiny. Fast. Loud. Ridiculously cute.

The hardest land animal to photograph in Colorado, hands down.

For a lot of us in our 30s, the bird switch gets flipped and out of nowhere, you just become a student of all avian specimens.

One day you’re living your life, the next you’re stopping mid-conversation because you saw a bird you’ve never seen before.

I’ve always loved wildlife, but the older I get, the more I genuinely love birds. Photographing them has only made it worse. Now I need to know what it is, where it lives, what it’s doing, and obviously I need 700 photos of it.

Apparently birdwatching in your 30s really is inevitable.

Shoutout to Max Castillo for absolutely nailing it with this song.

We spent a few days in Estes Park, Colorado, with one goal in mind: Find elk or deer stripping their velvet.

We didn’t have quite as much luck with that as we hoped, but wildlife photography has a funny way of giving you something you didn’t ask for but amazing all the same.

Over the course of the trip, we came across some really nice moose, pika, golden-mantled ground squirrels, and even mountain goats (on our way to Estes Park)

The mountain goats technically weren’t in Rocky Mountain National Park, but they were part of the same trip, so I’m counting them.

We may not have found many elk stripping velvet, but with a few days like this, it’s pretty hard to complain.
