candid vs. prompted

I wanted to take a moment to chat about candid photographs on a wedding day. I often hear from couples that they donā€™t want ā€œposedā€ photos on their wedding day, they want all candids.

I feel a strength of a seasoned photographer is being ready, able, and in the right spot to capture true candids and make them look elevated. The image of them walking out to the pier, him helping her with her dress, their first dance, are all true candid moments. I didnā€™t give them any direction, I just put myself where I felt I should be to get the best shot.

However sometimes there is a need to ā€˜createā€™ candid moments. Where I offer prompts and movement ideas to where I can then capture candid moments of you two within those guided moments.

All of this to say, you donā€™t have to feel like you need to ā€˜know what to do in front of the cameraā€™. The organic moments will unfold naturally, and if we need a little help and guidance, thatā€™s what Iā€™m there for. āœØ
