Have you heard your mom’s voice lately?

Not the voice you remember in your head, but her real voice. The way she laughed. The way she said your name. The little comments in the background that no one thought much about at the time.
A client recently had old family videos digitized, and she called me after watching them. Her mother had been gone for 10 years, and she told me she cried when she heard her voice again.

She said it felt like her mom was right there in the room.
That is the part that stayed with me.

Photos are powerful, but voices bring people back in a completely different way.

Today feels a little different for me.

St. Patrick’s Day was always “my dad’s day.” He was the first person I would call every year. No question. He loved being Irish… truly loved it. Both of his parents were born in Ireland, and that connection meant everything to him.

I miss him.
I miss his wise counsel.
I miss his laugh.
And I miss sharing life with him… especially the good news. He was always the one I called.

His name was William.

He didn’t always say he was proud… but I knew. And sometimes my mom would quietly say it for him. That stayed with me.

And it got me thinking…

How many of these moments live only in our memories now?
The calls. The conversations. The way they laughed.
The things we wish we could hear just one more time.

So many of the people we love most… we don’t get to call anymore.

But we do have something.
We have the photos.
The videos.
The stories.

If they’re tucked away in boxes, on old tapes, or buried on a hard drive… they’re easy to lose track of. And even easier to put off.

Today feels like a good day to pull one of those memories back out.

Watch an old video.
Look through a handful of photos.
Tell a story about someone you love.

Dad, I hope you know… all of your grandchildren are doing incredibly well. You would be so proud of each of them.

And Patrick… your grandson… named from both sides of our family… you had such a special role in his life. You helped shape the man he’s become.

You were loved. Deeply.
And you are missed the same way.

Not a clip on your phone. I mean an actual old video… a wedding tape, a camcorder video of your kids, or even a video of yourself growing up.

Spring is about two weeks away, and with everyone talking about spring cleaning, it got me thinking about spring cleaning our memories too. So many photos are scattered across phones, old computers, cloud accounts, and boxes… and a lot of family videos haven’t been watched in years.

As I step into 2026, I keep coming back to something that has been my passion for many years.

Photos.
Stories.

And making sure they are never lost.

Most of us have thousands of photos on phones, in iCloud or Google, on old computers, hard drives, or tucked away in boxes. We assume they’re safe—but many of those places are temporary.

This is often how people start with me: they want to digitize their old photos, slides, home movies, and tapes so they can finally see them again and protect them from outdated formats.

That’s an important first step.

The next question is: once everything is digitized, where will it live?
What I do is help people create a permanent digital home for their photos and stories—protected, organized, and intentionally passed on to their children and grandchildren.
