Introducing... Just Because Sessions!

I recently did a few simple portraits of my own daughter, and it hit me… this is something other parents might want too.

Nothing over the top. Just a clean, sweet capture of who they are right now.

Just them.

These are simple, quick portrait sessions for kids ages 5–18. No big production, no special occasion required. Maybe school photos didn’t turn out how you hoped, maybe they just lost a tooth, got braces off, or honestly… maybe you just want to freeze this stage before it disappears.

They’d also work really well for clean, natural headshots for sports, dance, theatre, or school activities.

New headshots seem to be on everyone’s spring to-do list lately, and honestly… it’s a good one to check off.

I’ve been photographing quite a few updates over the past few weeks, so I’m sharing a few of my recent favorites from three different clients.

Leaving Las Vegas after another incredible few days at WPPI Conference and feeling so grateful. What started years ago as a trip purely for education has turned into something even better… a full-blown family reunion with a side of learning. These friendships in this industry are something special, and getting to hug people in real life after mostly seeing each other online all year never gets old.

I even got to celebrate my birthday a little early with some of my favorite humans. And thanks to my knee reconstruction, I spent most of the week cruising around the convention center on a scooter, which honestly just added another layer to the chaos and gave everyone something to laugh about.

Of course the learning still delivers. Sitting in rooms with legends like Jerry Ghionis and getting the once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear Annie Leibovitz speak was unforgettable. Heading home inspired, creatively recharged, and already looking forward to next year. If you’re a photographer and you’ve never experienced WPPI… you’re missing out.

When your friends are this gorgeous, you’re never without a model.

Dana in the jungle and I barely had to say a word. We’d spot a patch of light, move two feet to the left, adjust a shoulder, and there it was. The greens, that dress, her bone structure… Costa Rica really understood the assignment.

This whole trip has been a reminder that creativity doesn’t always need a big production. Sometimes it’s just good light, lush surroundings, and a beautiful friend who trusts you with a camera.

A little life update since things have been quieter here.

An old knee injury resurfaced and became a torn ACL (yes, it happened doing cheer), and I recently had surgery to repair it. Right now my focus is rehab, healing, and learning to move at a slower pace than I’m used to.

Grateful the surgery went well, thankful for the support around me, and trusting God with this season and the timing of what comes next.

I almost didn’t come.
My knee injury had me second-guessing everything, and I truly tried to talk myself out of this trip. But I’m supposed to be here. God knew exactly what I needed.

This retreat has been exhilarating and has given me a spark I really needed. Even with the minor limitations, I’ve been able to do far more than I expected, and I’m soaking up every moment. Grateful, grounded, and happy in this beautiful place!
