When parents ask what a senior session with us is like, I often struggle to verbalize that the adventure and the excitement is essential to the creative process.

I often describe myself as a “dog chasing a squirrel” when working. Why? Because sometimes I see something and 🤯. I have to run towards it.

Much was the case with this image. We were at the end of the session walking back to the cars and I happened to turn around when I saw the light on the bricks. SQUIRRRRRREL!!!!!!!! In less than 15 seconds we had Mckenzie on the ledge and nailed this image.

Technically speaking…it’s not perfect.

However….! Her and her mom absolutely loved this image and were amazed seeing it when we shot it but it’s the story behind how we created it that sticks with them today…... EIGHT years later.

The practices, the games, the bus rides, the friendships, the Friday nights—it all feels endless until suddenly it isn’t.

I never planned on keeping these selfies.

After almost every senior session, we try snap a quick photo together.

Nothing fancy. No posing. Just a moment.

But over the years, those moments have become some of my favorite images.

Looking through them, I see proud parents. Excited seniors. Families celebrating a milestone they’ll never get back.

Senior year moves fast.

One minute they’re walking into high school and the next they’re planning what comes after graduation.

That’s why senior photos have never been just about pictures for me.

They’re about remembering this season before it becomes a memory.

That’s a wrap on my first post surgery senior session and I couldn’t be happier to have it be with Rockwood Summit Senior Drake Smyth, his family Stacey Lenzi Smyth, and I had my boys to help!

Everyone ROCKED is and I couldn’t be happier to make such an ugly face in our post session selfie! 🤣 That’s a happy man right there believe it or not. That’s the face you make when you sweat directly into your eyeballs and can’t see anymore lol!

When I was a kid (didn’t play high school) I was a center. As in….I sat in the center of the bench.🤣🤣
