Today's rose is White Licorice, a light yellow Floribunda bred by Bedard pre-2007, introduced by Weeks in 2011. The double blooms coming in flushes have a strong licorice fragrance on a disease resistant plant.

Here is La Marne, a Polyantha introduced in 1915 by Barbier. Shallow cups of cerise-pink-edged semi-double blooms, salmon-pink within, paling to a white center. The flowers alone are lovely and different, but what a rose! La Marne is one of the all time best flower producers we know. Under the best conditions, she is never without bloom. Vigorous to 6', with very glossy, disease-resistant foliage and smooth green stems packed tightly together.

Here is Meilland Decor Arlequin, a Shrub Rose introduced by Meilland in 1986. Brightly colored flowers of gold edged strawberry red, cupped, semi-double and long lasting. This is an extraordinary bloomer that makes a robust plant, very HT-like in style but very large and bushy. Mildly fragrant.

Here is Lady Anne Kidwell, a Polyantha introduced in 1948 by Krebs: Marsh's Nursery. One of the Polyantha-Teas which Graham Thomas talked about, Mlle. Cecile Brunner being the most recognized. This too has elegant scrolled and very narrow buds of an almost glossy claret-pink, opening wide like an untied bow. Fragrant.

Today's rose is Will Rogers, a Hybrid Tea introduced in 1936 by Howard. Large, very double crimson black flowers that reward the grower well when given afternoon shade. Red-rose fragrance on a bushy, spreading plant; a fine memorial tot he Oklahoma-born cowboy comedian-journalist who died in a plane crash in 1935.

This is Madame Edouard Herriot, a Hybrid Tea introduced in 1913 by Pernet-Ducher. Madame Edouard Herriot was a color break in her day and is still unlike other salmon-pink roses in her complexity of shadings from rich salmon to peach to pure pink with touches of yellow at the heart. The genius of Pernet-Ducher lies in roses such as this. Fragrant.

Here is Pilar Landecho, a Hybrid Tea introduced by Camprubi in 1940. Flowers tall and pointed, holding their tall form when fully open, beginning coppery salmon with vermilion shades on the outside of the petals, soft buff-yellow inside, turning bright golden yellow, veined and shaded with copper, buff and terracotta. Penetrating fruity scent.

Here is Mrs. Dudley Cross, a Tea introduced in 1907 by Paul. Pale yellow tinted crimson, especially in cool weather; often in fall the flowers glaze over with crimson-pink. A later Tea with the size and substance of the Cochet group of roses, Mrs. Dudley cross is one of the most vigorous Tea roses, and its thornlessness is much admired. Fragrant.

Our rose for today is Comtesse Des Barbatane, a Bourbon introduced in 1858 by Guillot pere & Clement. Large flowers of ivory blush shaded deeper, very fragrant. This rose is of the Noisette-Bourbon sort, Like Comtesse Rocquigny, and one of the more dramatic in this group.

Here is the Hybrid Perpetual, "Tina Marie" found by Thomas Ligget as a sport of "Grandmother's Hat" in 1998. The frilly flowers are light pink, double and fragrant.
