Yesterday I had the chance to join Susan Stripling’s photo walk at WPPI, and it was such a good reminder that learning never stops in this industry.

We spent the afternoon experimenting with full sun + off-camera flash and playing with in-camera double exposures to create layered, artistic images straight out of the camera.

I love stepping outside my usual workflow and trying new techniques—it keeps the creative spark alive and always finds its way back into the way I photograph my couples.

Grateful for teachers who share their craft so generously.

As a Sonoma & Napa wedding photographer, I’ve learned that the magic happens in the quiet in-between moments — your mom buttoning your gown, your best friends laughing in silk robes, the way the light falls across your veil before anyone else sees you.

Here are a few quick tips to elevate your getting ready photos:
• Choose a room with natural light (windows > overhead lighting)
• Keep the space tidy (designate one corner for bags + food)
• Have all details ready: dress, shoes, perfume, rings, invitation suite
• Wear something that makes you feel beautiful before the dress goes on
• Build in a few quiet minutes — those are often the most emotional images

These moments set the tone for your entire gallery.

3 Ways to Stay Present on Your Wedding Day

Your wedding day goes by faster than you can imagine — one moment you’re slipping into your dress, and the next you’re dancing under the stars. ✨
That’s why staying present is everything. You deserve to actually feel every laugh, tear, and little glance that makes your day uniquely yours.

Here are 3 ways to slow it all down:

1️⃣ Do a first look.
It’s not just about photos — it’s about taking a quiet breath together before the whirlwind begins. Most couples tell me it was their favorite part of the day.

2️⃣ Assign a family wrangler.
Choose someone who knows your family dynamics and can help gather everyone for portraits. That way, you can focus on the feeling — not the logistics.

3️⃣ Build in breathing room.
Add 10-minute pockets throughout your timeline for deep breaths, quiet hugs, or to simply watch your guests enjoying the moment you’ve created.
