The best upgrade for your listing photos doesn’t cost anything. Do this before I show up.

You don’t need to buy anything or stage the whole house. Just start by decluttering.

These are the things I end up moving on almost every shoot.

Look at every surface and ask if it helps sell the room. If not, put it away.

Then the floor. Ten minutes of tidying makes a huge difference.

Open the curtains, turn the lamps on, make the bed. Small stuff, big difference.

Then let me do my job. I’d rather spend shoot day on light and composition than moving laundry.

Save this and send it to your seller before shoot day.

Want your next listing to look like it belongs in a magazine? That’s what I do.

This kitchen was one of my favourites to shoot. Dark units, gold niches and an island that just keeps going.

I got low and shot straight down the island so the garden became part of the kitchen.

Straight on, everything lines up. The niches, the ovens, the stools. I had to get this one.

Then you open one door and there’s a full bar in there.

Lit shelves on one side, the bar on the other. This is the stuff the owners love showing people.

The wide shot shows the space, but the details are what make it theirs.

If you’ve just finished a kitchen you’re proud of, DM me “EDIT”. I’d love to shoot it.

Most people who want to start a business aren’t waiting on the right gear, the right course or the right moment. They’re waiting to feel ready. And that feeling never arrives.

Hi, I’m Rach. I run Adair Media Group, a real estate photo and video business I started in 2017 with no clients, no portfolio and no house to shoot. I had all the gear and no idea how to get work. What I did have was a bit of fear, and I let it make the decisions for a while.

Looking back, the thing holding me back was never my kit. It was the list of reasons I kept giving myself. I needed a better portfolio first. I needed to know the right pricing. I needed one more course. Every one of those reasons sounded sensible, and every one of them was a way of not sending the email.

So here’s what actually moved things for me. I photographed my own house, badly at first. I reached out to local agents and offered free shoots, and most of them said no. The few who said yes gave me the work I needed to get better. None of that happened because I felt ready. It happened because I started, and the starting taught me the rest.

If you’re stuck right now, ask yourself one honest question: what’s the reason I keep giving for not starting, and would I accept that reason from a friend? Then do the smallest possible version of the thing. Send one message. Shoot one room. Book one call.
You don’t need to be fearless. You just need to start while you’re still scared.

Which reason have you been telling yourself? Tell me in the comments, and if you want a specific video covering different topics also let me know in the comments 👀

Three things I do on every shoot before I press the shutter. If you’re just getting into real estate photography, start here.

I always ask the client what the project means to them first. Did they live through the remodel? Have they been waiting years to build on that land? Whatever they tell me changes what I shoot first.

Keep your verticals straight. If the door frames are leaning, the whole room looks cheap, and that’s not fair to the people who put the work in.

Every job gets the same effort from me, big or small. That’s honestly how I get most of my referrals.

Save this for your next shoot, and send it to someone who’s just starting out. I post one of these every Thursday.

If I lost all my gear and had to start over. These are the 3 things I would buy again first 👇 quick note I forgot to say in the video: this all assumes you already have a camera body. mine is the Canon R6 Mark II.

hi, I’m Rach. I run Adair Media Group, a real estate photo and video business I started in 2017 with no clients, no portfolio and no idea what I was doing. I’ve worked across London and North Idaho, and I share what actually works so you don’t waste money learning it the hard way.

for a long time I thought better gear would fix everything. it didn’t. what actually helped was knowing which pieces of gear earn their place. so here’s what I’d rebuy first and why.

a wide angle lens real estate is all about making a room feel like a room. a wide lens lets you show the whole space without having to stand in the corner or the hallway. it’s the one lens that does the most for your photo and video work.

my DJI mic
if you’re talking to camera, doing walkthroughs or making content like this, bad audio loses people faster than bad video. a small clean mic made the biggest difference to my reels for the least money.

a polariser and an ND filter
the polariser cuts reflections and glare, which matters a lot with windows and glossy surfaces. the ND filter lets you control your exposure in bright light, especially for video. they’re small, they’re cheap compared to a lens, and they fix problems you can’t fix later in editing.

none of this is about having the most expensive kit. it’s about owning the few things that solve real problems on a real shoot.
if you’re thinking about getting into real estate photography, or just starting any kind of creative business, save this so you’ve got a shopping list that isn’t a money pit.
I’m also putting together Shoot to Sell, a course on how to shoot, edit and sell real estate photo and video. the waitlist link is in my bio if you want first access.

what’s the one piece of gear you wouldn’t give up? tell me below 👇

Photographers, if you’re only handing over empty rooms you’re leaving something on the table.

I get it, you got booked for photos. But buyers struggle to picture an empty room.

Same room, same angle. Now you can actually see where the sofa goes.

Empty shows the space. Staged shows how you’d live in it.

Putting a bed in there makes the size of the room so much easier to read.

This is how I offer it. Always label it as virtually staged and always give them the empty version too.

It’s not upselling. It’s giving your client one more way to sell the house.

Got an empty listing coming up? DM me “STAGING”. Photographers, save this one.

the biggest mistake i made when i started:
thinking i needed to upgrade everything.
better equipment. better tools. better resources.
if only i had X, everything would change.
so i invested. i upgraded. i bought.
nothing changed.
then i realized something.
the problem wasn’t my equipment.
it was my understanding of it.
once i stopped chasing the new thing and started LEARNING the thing i had—everything shifted.
and here’s what i discovered:
most people aren’t failing because they lack resources.
they’re failing because they don’t know how to USE the resources they already have.
whether that’s equipment. time. money. skills.
the pattern is always the same.
you think you need the next level.
you think upgrading will fix it.
but the real fix is mastery, not gear.
so what actually matters when you’re starting?
it’s not upgrading your tools.
it’s understanding your tools.
and that breakthrough?
it doesn’t cost anything.
i’m breaking down exactly what to invest in instead.
follow for the full breakdown 👇
what’s actually holding you back right now?

You see a nice kitchen. I see the photo that’s going to sell the house.

A window to you is directional light and depth to me. And a reason to shoot from that corner.

Those beams are a frame inside the frame. They pull your eye straight into the kitchen.

The floor, the counters and the lights all point the same way. Leading lines.

An empty wall gives the photo room to breathe, and gives the agent room for text.

A house isn’t one photo. It’s a sequence.

Every listing should feel like a story you walk through.

Every image has a job. Some show space, some show flow, some just stop you scrolling.

That’s the difference between taking photos and actually marketing a property.

Need your next listing done properly? Let’s talk.

So you just started your real estate photography business. Now what?

You don’t have clients. You don’t have a portfolio. You probably don’t have a house to shoot.

That was literally me in 2017. I had all the gear and zero clue how to get work.

What changed? I did three things. I photographed my own house (badly at first). I reached out to local agents offering free shoots. I shot showrooms and open houses to build more pieces.
Most people said no. Some said yes. And those experiences taught me more than anything else.

The thing is, you don’t need to be perfect to start. You just need to start scared and do it anyway.

I turned this exact method into six figures. You can too.
DM me if you want the free guide on getting your first shoots.

I was the last person to photograph their home.

50 years. Kids raised there. Every Christmas. And then one day they handed the keys over, and my photos were the final record of it.

That’s the side of real estate photography nobody warns you about. People think it’s just shooting houses. It’s first homes, dream builds, goodbyes. You’re there for some of the biggest moments of people’s lives.

I started Adair Media Group in 2017 and it’s taken me further than I ever imagined. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a real estate photographer, follow along. I’m sharing everything I know about the business, the income, and the bits nobody talks about. 🏡
