The way we photograph families is constantly evolving.

The longer I do this, the more I realize the biggest shifts usually come from living more life, slowing down, and paying attention to what matters deeply to YOU as an artist.

A lot of the things that changed my work had less to do with photography techniques and everything to do with my personal perspective.

I think photographers get frustrated because the sessions they’re shooting right now are often a reflection of what they were marketing MONTHS AGO.

But your dream clients aren’t going to magically appear overnight, you have to create your way to them.

Which means even inside sessions that aren’t fully aligned yet, it’s your job to start creating the work you DO want more of (and then only share that, ik sounds wild!)

Then, little by little, your portfolio starts attracting more aligned people, which gives you more opportunities to create even more aligned work, and the work you love creating starts sn*******ng.

I get asked quite a bit if the education side of my business is growing, why do I still take on sessions?

And the answer is always the same, because I’m an artist first.

Helping photographers build businesses they love has become such a meaningful part of what I do, and I genuinely love that side of my work.

But creating, being in a home with a family, capturing something real and honest will always be part of me too.

That’s the work that fills my cup and reminds me why I picked up a camera in the first place.

So even as things shift and evolve, I don’t see myself stepping away from it.

I might change how much I shoot, I might be more intentional with what I take on, but I’ll always make space for it.

Because I’m teaching this, but I’m living it too.

Summer used to completely take me out.

Like, trying to work while four boys are home all day with zero plan?? not my strongest era.

But it DID teach me that I can’t just wing it on summer plans and hope for the best.

And having a little structure, some help where needed, and getting really honest about what I can actually handle goes a looong way.

Summer is still going to be a little chaotic (let’s be real!) but this year feels a lot more fun than frantic, and I’m not complaining! ☀️

Moms, how do you juggle work & kids during the summer time??
