Rose hips along the fog-bound coastline of a coastal Maine island. High in vitamin C, rose hips can be made into jams, jellies, and teas. Many years ago, during a multi-week sailing trip along the Maine coast, we ate rose hips on island stops, picking them off the Rugosa rose shrub as if we were picking apples from a tree. A tasty treat; watch out for all the seeds!

On a recent visit to an old World War 2-era military installation on the Maine coast, a group of us walked through the darkness of the old concrete battery and came across a vintage-style red children's tricycle; its presence was alerted by a faint glimmer of light that penetrated the darkness. 

It had been years since I had been there. The darkness in the middle of the main corridor and side rooms was as dark as I remember it.

It has been even longer since I last rode the red king of the driveway. So many adventures on my tricycle to many far away places without ever leaving the driveway.
