Document grandparents for your kids.
There're exactly two photos of Grandma and I together when I was around 4. She passed away when I was 5.
I spent my first years of childhood close to her and in fact, the name "My Dear Cactus" was inspired by honoring her.
I grew up running around her garden and backyard where she had all kinds of trees and flowers, in a corner there were these big cacti where I would play hide and seek...
I have spent most of my life longing for her, often wondering what would it be like if she was here today, photographs is what helps me cope.
I look at them in silence and observe all the details,
the texture of her hair,
the color of her eyes,
the wrinkles on her skin,
her hand touching mine...
Other times, I hold those photos and show my kids and I can tell them stories for hours. They never met her, but they now know a lot about who she was and her story.
Photography acts as a time machine that allow us to reawaken emotions, that's why documentary sessions are my passion. Capturing who you are in your environment and documenting your story for life is a job I do from the heart.
