Toy Story and Taylor Swift have me all in my feels about childhood and how quickly it fades. I’m a mom of bigger kids now so I may have a little more perspective. I’ve been where you are, I know what’s important, and perhaps what you’ll miss most.
The milestones are important, but so are the little things.
Last summer, I packed away my son’s Jellycat mouse along with a red sash from a pirate costume he wore when he was three. The funny thing is, he wore that costume for a year or so until pirates were no longer his “thing”, but that simple red sash remained a staple in his playtime. It became a rope, a headband, a tow strap, a connection between treasures and inventions only he could imagine. To anyone else, it was just a piece of fabric. To him, it unlocked a world of adventure every single day. Boxing them up was something no mother can prepare her heart for. A quiet reminder that childhood doesn’t disappear all at once. It fades in small pieces. Now when I run across a photo of him with his mouse or that silly red sash, the rush of nostalgia hits hard. It’s bittersweet, but those photos touch my heart and spark joy in a way they never could at the time.
And that’s what has inspired something special coming to the studio. A childhood session that is unique and special, but so very simple.
Not perfect portraits. Not elaborate props. Just children as they are, alongside the things they love most right now, the toy they carry everywhere, the dress-up clothes they refuse to outgrow, the hobby that lights them up. Or maybe just a simple red sash.
Because one day inevitably, you’ll pack them away too and feel all the feels. So let’s celebrate their childhood stories…right now, as they are.
More details coming soon 🤍
