Just checking in and showing my face around here. Truthfully, social media doesn’t hold much space in my personal life, and it’s a low priority in my business as well. Perhaps it’s growing older and wiser, but I value privacy - not only my own, not only my clients’ - everyone’s. There’s something inherently strange about sharing pieces of other people’s most intimate moments in a public space for my own gain. Somewhere along the way, photos began to feel like a free market -content to be consumed, shared, and used without much thought to consent or context.
What I cherish most about this work is being invited into people’s private worlds - personal moments that aren’t meant for everyone. Turning those moments into something performative for the internet can feel counterintuitive. And yet, here I am, trying to balance showing my work and sustaining a business, while also wrestling with the consequences of a digital world that feels anything but social. Welcome to my conundrum. Perhaps one day I can feel comfortable and find a balance.
If you ever reach out to me here and don’t hear back, please know it’s nothing personal. I don’t even keep these apps on my phone. You’re always welcome to reach out in more “traditional” ways like a phone call or a text. Better yet, let’s connect in person and return to the life that’s actually happening around us.
