Today (9-3-26), while getting ready for the day I got the notification that there were orcas breaching in Admiralty inlet. The first thing that popped into my mind was.... SRKWs (Rs)?? See, there was reports last night, that the Southern Resident Killer Whales were inbound in the San De Fuca..... could it be that they came here? It would be early for them, but definitely possible.

Mum and I jumped in the car and went straight to Lagoon Point. Where I scanned, and scanned... and nothing. Then, the word came in.... it IS Rs!! BUT! ... they're already down at Point No Point. Boooooo.

But, there were also Bigg's around, so we decided to wait for them. While waiting for them, it was discovered, yet another group of Rs were northbound nearly to us (but on the OTHER side of the channel. So we watched them swim past, through our binoculars.

Mum and I decided to head back north and possibly catch up with the Bigg's (who it turned out, were way further north). We stopped at Ft Casey, as people were saying the Rs were pushing towards Whidbey. I scanned and scanned.... when they popped up right off the point!! ....and my camera was back at the car, cause I've never seen the Rs that close to Casey, so I took a few iPhone videos, then ran to get my camera to get a few photos for ID. We were able to identify a few members of Lpod!

We followed Lpod (including the newest member L130!) to Ft Ebey, where they approached very close to the bluff. Suddenly one of the burst into the air! That was quickly followed by many tail lobs (Lobtails?) and rolling around in the kelp.

Such a lovely day!!

Welcome back to Puget Sound, members of Jpod (the south-er orcas) and Lpod!!!!

Today (8-27-26), I drove up to Anacortes with the hope that Bigg's Orcas (the T99s & T37A4) would head into Guemes Channel. Much to my (and many others) enjoyment, they did just that!

The orcas were heading south into Swinomish Channel (CRAZY!), but they turned around, just as I arrived to March Point. They quickly made their way past Cap Sante and into Guemes Channel. They were sleepy and fighting a current, so they pushed closer to Guemes Island, as they went west. Near the Anacortes Ferry Terminal, they made a sharp turn and headed straight south towards us! They milled for a little white... then, suddenly, Barakat burst into the air.... three times in a row!

Jack (T137A) traveled up the east side of Whidbey today (8-22-26). He has been traveling away from his direct family for the last few months. About a week ago, he was spending some time with his extended family in the south sound (Grandma, auntie and cousins). When he is in the south sound, Jack likes to do a lot of airborne acrobatics. That is NOT the case around Whidbey Island. In-fact I have NEVER seen Jack breach. BUT.... most of my closest passes feature Jack! So, I guess I cant complain tooooo much.

Be sure to read the captions of the photos. And watch the video!
