There's a moment at the Log Slide Overlook in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore where your brain genuinely can't process what it's seeing. š®
You're standing at the top of a 300-foot sand dune that drops almost straight down to the cobblestone shore of Lake Superior. The lake stretches out in front of you like a blue ocean with no end. And if you look east, you can just make out the white tower of Au Sable Point Lighthouse peeking above the pines.
The trail to get here is only about 1.5 miles round trip from the Log Slide trailhead off H-58, but the payoff is one of the most dramatic overlooks in the entire Midwest. Go at golden hour in early September and you'll have the whole place to yourself.
Have you hiked to the Log Slide? Drop a š if you've stood on that edge, and tag someone who needs to make this their next UP adventure. š
