Good Tuesday Morning!
It was so nice to be able to sleep in today as we take an afternoon flight out to Denver for Evergreen Colorado Kennel Club’s All Breed Show. But before we do, I wanted to recap the week we had in Lexington for The Bluegrass Classic Dog Show Cluster!
It’s no secret that I love Kentucky and both the cities we’re lucky enough to work in but Lexington is special in the sense that the rolling Kentucky Bluegrass you see everywhere is like a welcome mat for those who visit. I had so many locals thanking me for talking their city up this week and I told them that it’s easy to talk up something you truly feel passionate about. In this case it was about Dog Shows and Horse Country.
In the midst of all the excitement I forgot to give special highlight to the 2 rare entry Breeds National Specialties that were held in conjunction with the shows. Both Boerboels and Entlebucher Mountain Dog are breeds that you may see 1 entry every few months. To see a dozen or so of each was neat for a fan of the Sport. The Boerboels especially have come a long ways in a few years with the depth of quality in entry. And to see one of these 100+ lb beefcakes fly through the air is a sight to behold.
This year Rhea and I had the great fortune of sponsoring the Best Bred By In Show Winner on Saturday with a check for $500. While I realize the cost of being a breeder is something that’ll never be paid back in any prize money, it was our token of appreciation to those who keep this Sport going like a well oiled machine. Next year we hope to offer even more in prize money and hope to advertise it with lots of folks eager to participate!
The Kentucky Horse Park is a stunning backdrop to the Bluegrass Cluster. Because of the uniqueness of these Grounds, most of my mornings before the show and nearly every evening after Best In Show I was honored to be asked to do a few photoshoots. Something I learned about Lexington is that at dawn and dusk, it is primetime for mosquitoes and they preferred me to everyone I was with. I get to take to Colorado a mosquito bite for every photoshoot I did which came out to be 11 of them when it was all said and done 😂 Mental note to self, I’ll need a screened in porch when we move out here in the future!
Look forward to coming back to Kentucky when we’re back to Louisville in the temporary new home next March! Who knows, maybe I’ll get to sneak in a trip back to Horse Country then.
