Senior year only happens once. Which feels deeply unfair considering most of us are still emotionally processing kindergarten.

I think parents book senior photos thinking:
“We should probably do senior pictures.”

And then somewhere during the session it hits them:
“Oh. My kid is becoming an adult.”

That’s the real thing we’re documenting here.

I know there are people on here who have been following my work for years without a like or a comment. You watch every post, every behind-the-scenes video, every transformation… and imaging yourself doing a shoot one day.

I see you.

Most of my clients start exactly that way.

Nobody wakes up one morning suddenly fearless and camera-ready. They just decide maybe they’re worth documenting as they are now instead of waiting to become someone else first. Or maybe they're just ready to dive into a new way of living.

Anyway, this is me gently telling you that if you’ve been thinking about it, you’re allowed to stop just thinking about it.

I spent the day photographing the ambassadors for Realities For Children and honestly it was one of those shoots that restores your faith in people a little.

These are business owners and community leaders who volunteer an incredible amount of time and energy to support children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or are at-risk right here in Northern Colorado.

Also: proof that headshots can still feel warm and human when the people in front of the camera actually are warm and human.

Part one because there were too many good faces not to share.

The thing nobody tells you about being a portrait photographer is that if you do it long enough, your clients become woven into your life.

You watch kids grow up.
You watch marriages.
Career changes.
Losses.
Wins.
All of it.

Anyway, Crystal’s stuck with me for over ten years now, so clearly we’re in this together.

I think parents book senior photos thinking they’re documenting a milestone. But really, they’re documenting a person right before they change again.

That’s why I like giving seniors a lot of room to be themselves during shoots. The photos are better when they stop trying to look like a “senior photo” and just exist as who they are right now.

Summer sessions are now officially on the calendar. 4 available in July, 4 in August. Which feels impossible because weren’t these kids like… nine years old yesterday?

Anyway… if senior photos are on your to-do list, don’t wait until fall. Your future stressed-out self will thank you.

Three things that make your session infinitely better:
We plan it.
You show up for the plan.
You trust the plan. The plan takes on a creative path of its own.

It really is that simple.

Confidence isn’t something you suddenly have one day, like a new hair color.

It’s what’s left when you stop worrying about everything else. It’s already there–under the overthinking, the hesitation, the “I’ll do it later.” My job is to create the space where you can actually feel it.

You think you'll remember all the important stuff... The way they laugh. The way you feel right now. But time has a way of softening the details. That's why these moments matter.

These make me laugh... but they also say a lot. I didn't think about how I looked. I wasn't trying to be anything. I was just... being whoever I wanted in the moment.

And I think that version of us is always in there. We just need the right space to let her show up again.
