Its Larch season!! I wanted to post a few that I never got around to after one of the most magically hikes of my life. The Enchantments is an extremely difficult permit to obtain, but a terrible winter storm was forecasted, scaring off what would normally be 100's of people hoping to win the walk up lottery. The ranger came out, and said "I don't think I've ever gotten to say this before. Today I get to make everybody happy".

The forecast was spot on. Our first night, we camped at Colchuck Lake to rest up before the big hike up Asgard Pass. Its 2,000 ft up in less than a mile, and about half way up the storm hit. It didn't let up for two days, and seeing the iconic bright yellow larches get covered in fresh powder made for some dramatic images and one of the most memorable camping trips we've ever had.

One more inspired by , but bugs instead of birds. A million little wing beats frozen in time, each recorded on a still frame by the subtle flicker of the LED lamp lighting them. Taken deep in a Florida swamp, when I was absolutely mobbed by clouds of mayflys.

I'm a huge fan, if you don't know him, check him out! The way he captures the incredible movement of flight blows my mind. I've always found his work so inspiring and have wanted to try something similiar myself, as playing with time and motion is a big motif in my work. I've never intentionally tried to emulate his work, but I did so accidentally! I was shooting the Gemenid meteor shower in Death Valley and a large owl swooping right over my head, flying into the frame of my long exposure. My headlamp lit him up, and I captured the movement of his wings, frozen in time as he made a turn and exited my frame. What a cool experience!

Last windmill for awhile! I just wanted to post this for posterity, as well as some previous accolades from winners. I'm psyched at all the love and attention this series got and am excited to explore it further. Stay tuned :)

Last of the windmills for now! I'm super grateful and humbled by all the love and kind words I've received over this series, and I will definitely be continuing to develop this work in the future! I used a bit of different approach for one. Still a long exposure, but instead using a handheld strobe I flashed the spinning blades dozens of times, freezing them in time.

These were some of the first shots I took the Shadows on the Wind series. The black and white one was shot 16 years ago, when I saw the moon's shadow projects on the spinning blades. That's when I first got the idea to try shooting them in the daytime and getting that effect during a long exposure sunrise. I just took years of failed experiments until I finally saw results that I was proud of!
