My business has evolved quite a bit over the last 15 years, as has the industry!
This has been a great reflection on how my systems has changed, especially in the last couple of years with all the new technology.

I love capturing the unique relationship a child has with each of their parent.
Though I have my staple poses, I also make time to let them play and see what unfolds.
I look for their chemistry and overall vibe to inspire my next set of Pick Up Points (my posing system that I’ve been teaching photographers).
You can never be too sure how long a toddler will give you though, so I aim to get all of my staple shots in the first 15 minutes, which then allows us to play and experiment for the creative and candid shots without pressure.

This was her very first photo session! As a pandemic baby, they never got a chance to do family photos.
In fact, she hasn’t met many people so her parents were worried that she would have stranger anxiety.
In these situations, it’s important to mirror their energy to ensure you don’t overwhelm them.
I approached her more like a playmate and we hit it off instantly. It especially helped that I spoke Chinese since that’s the only language she currently speaks.
She called me “line line姐姐”
She ended up having so much fun, if you can’t tell from her smiles! 😍
What are your best practices when working with timid children?

And Happy Father’s Day to my dad, the one who taught me what unconditional love is.
He was such an active part of my teenage years. He shopped for every corsage with me, shuttled me to all of my activities, listened to my teenage drama rants, and everything in between.
I was able to confide in him with every heartbreak and hope to be as supportive to my kids as he was to me.
I love that my parents have stopped throwing a fit when I tell them we’re doing a photo shoot.

Arguably the most underrated part of the day… the time between the end of the ceremony, and before the cocktail hour.
They’re relaxed now that the formal stuff is done, but not kicked into party mode yet.
This is a good time to give them and their families a little alone time to soak in all their emotions before joining the crowd again.
I love documenting the sweet and tender moments between them during this fleeting time.
My little man is graduating 6th grade tomorrow. 🥹
He still thinks I’m cool (I think) and likes to hold my hand when we walk. 🥰 He and his friends also seem to enjoy hanging out with me, so I plan to take them on some day trips.
To make time for my kids and soak up their innocence while I can, I will be reducing my work schedule this summer.

I’ve photographed this boy since he was a newborn (and his parent’s engagement and wedding!)
He was the new little brother to his fur sister then, and now I get to see him become a big brother to this new fur little sister.

What I’ve come to love about my mini sessions with them is that I can never predict what my own family photos will look like.
They don’t take direction. 🤷🏻♀️
And I want to be in the photo so I don’t try to directhem either.
We just go with the flow and my team captures whatever unfolds. 😆

Meet my new photo intern.
Would you be able to tell that this cutie was super shy when she first arrived?
So shy in fact that she wouldn’t unbury her face from her dad’s chest.
Her parents weren’t sure if we were going to get any photos.
Instead of forcing her, I got down to her level and started chatting with her. I asked her about her favorite game and she lit up.
Before we knew it, she was directing the shots and didn’t want the session to end.
This all happened (and coincided with adorable photos) in a matter of 15 minutes… that’s what many families love about my mini sessions. ☺️
