Outfits. Location. Kids. The husband.

If one of those is stressing you out about family photos, you’re in good company. It’s usually one of the four.

Outfits and location take less planning than you think. I have guides for both on the blog.

Kids just need to know what to expect, a few snacks that won’t melt or stain, and permission to be silly.

And the husband? He doesn’t need enthusiasm. He just has to show up.

All 10 tips are on the blog. Link in bio.

Which one is yours? Tell me in the comments.

When was the last time you got everyone in one photo? Not just the kids. Grandma and Grandpa too, all three generations together. That's the one everyone will want a copy of.

Holiday mini sessions at St. Francis in the South Bay. Sunday, November 22.

Eucalyptus trees. Stained glass. Roses by the chapel. Dappled light in the grove and a wall of colored glass.

It's a photo session you actually enjoy. Grandma wants a new one for the fridge, and this is how she gets it.

Easy on your weekend. Easy on the kids. Still everything you need for the holiday card.

The details:

Ever wonder what actually happens at a family photo session with me?

A little posing. A lot of laughing. Some dancing that was not in the shot list.

Nobody has to know how to pose. That’s my job. I keep it moving, I keep it light, and sometimes that means squatting in the middle of a parking lot to get the shot.

And the secret sauce? Playtime. I get to know your kids before I ever ask them to smile, so by the time we’re shooting, I’m their friend, not a stranger with a camera.

Also, watch the end. Kids will look at a lot of things. My camera is rarely one of them. So I cheat.

Oh, and there’s a lollipop at the end. They remember. Every single year.

Los Angeles holiday mini sessions are booking now in LA, Pasadena, Conejo Valley and South Bay. Find them all at the link in bio.

I love me a good fall snuggle wrapped in blankets, puppy cuddles, toasty wh***ey cocktails, kitchen adventures with Aldo, lots of laughs, long pours of w**e, good chats, and my favorite people.

This year fall is going to come with a fuller schedule, but I’m looking forward to finding those magical moments to pause, creating new memories full of laughter, and chasing adventure wherever we can find it.

And I’m so excited to see all of our 2026 families this year for holiday sessions.

Comment your favorite fall tradition, I’d love to know.

holiday mini sessions in los angeles: what real families are saying.

Every year around this time I get some version of the same question from moms. Will you actually get my kids to smile? Will all of us look good, not just the kids? They can’t sit still for five minutes, how is this even going to work? And somewhere in the background there’s usually a husband who would rather do just about anything else than pose for a family photo.

Fair questions, every one of them. So instead of me telling you how holiday sessions actually go, here’s what families who’ve already sat for one had to say. Many of these are families I’ve photographed for years now, holiday season after holiday season.

People ask me all the time where to go for family photos in LA. Finding the right location matters just as much as choosing your photographer, and it’s usually the hardest part to figure out on your own.

As a family photographer working across LA, the Conejo Valley, and South Bay, I’ve spent years scouting spots so that my families don’t have to.

Some are quiet and shaded for kids who won’t sit still. Some are architectural and editorial for families who want something bolder. Some just feel like home.

I wrote up my full guide to my favorite fall and holiday photo locations. They are tested, and ready for 2026.

It’s on the blog now, link in bio.

Can’t wait to see you 💗

Some trips are just trips. And then there are the ones that remind you why you are a photographer in the first place. 🌸

It started in Oregon at Adelman Peony Gardens. My favorite flower, so many of them. I could have stayed for days. I still think about going back just to create an entire peony picture book.

From there, off to w**e country, need I say more? We stayed at the most photogenic little hotel, THE COMPASS MCMINNVILLE, and then spent our days completely inspired at Artist Block W**e, Ambar Estate, The Carlton W**emakers Studio, Furioso Vineyards, and Lingua Franca W**ery. Every single stop felt like a location scout I didn’t know I was taking.

Then the coast called.
The drive home down Highway 1 was “uno photo” every few minutes. Point Lobos, Bixby Bridge, Pfeiffer Beach, Nepenthe, Ragged Point Inn, Elephant Seal Vista Point. The ocean and the most beautiful green mountains and hills has always been my favorite photos, and the Central Coast delivered on both. 🌊

The ocean is my reset button. Always has been. It’s also my favorite thing to photograph.

“Lucky charm headshot.” 🍀

That’s what Anna called hers, and honestly, that’s exactly what a new headshot will do for you!

She came to her headshot mini session feeling uncomfortable, which, for the record, is the most common thing I hear. More common than “I’m so excited!” More common than anything. She left with photos that were “exactly what she needed”.

Her words: “Krista was warm and welcoming and directed all the posing.”

That’s the whole secret, honestly. You don’t have to know what to do with your hands or how to pose. That’s literally my job. You just have to show up.

If getting your photo taken sounds awkward and uncomfortable, good news: you hire me so you don’t have to figure it out yourself. I direct everything and you just show up.

20 years in business and I’m still unlearning things. Here are the ones that stung the most.

Stop waiting for referrals to show up. Stop thinking your work speaks for itself. Stop hiding behind your business. And stop assuming people won’t book you once they actually know you. That last one is the one that changed everything for me.

Save this if any of them hit home. And then go ask for the business.
