Aloha! I'm a wedding + portrait photographer who loves capturing + sharing in CA/HI + beyond! Hi hi!

Shanna here...I'm an LA/OC lifestyle photographer who squeals/giggles/jumps with joy when capturing weddings, events, maternity, newborns, families, seniors, Disneyland dates + my personal fave - random candids of my husband (he hates this!). I'm half-Japanese, half-Filipino, born + raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles + love it so much, I never left.... + also because my mom would be heart

broken, haha! I am an avid fan of chatting over meals, exploring new dessert locations, 90s R+B, working ridiculously outdated slang into everyday conversation + I fully embrace my awkwardness when I pretend I'm cool enough to use current slang/lingo appropriately. Most often, it leaves my husband shaking his head at me in embarrassment.

When I got into photography, I started out using the most accessible light - the sun. Depending on what time you shoot, the light will always look different + that allowed for variety in your images. The idea of studio light and the additional gear always intimidated me. So, I stayed in the same pocket for a lot of years - in my nice cozy corner of comfort.

Until I found where I was able to step into experimenting + exploring studio work while still having my old friend with me- natural light. 🤭 I definitely want to grow my knowledge of studio light but maaan, one step at a time!!

Photographing was so fun + such a breeze - I have so many images I want to share from this shoot! This was towards the end of the shoot + to wrap it up, I HAD to get a quick shot of her + her fav stylist…her mama!

If you’re in the South Bay area + are looking for a beautifully designed aesthetic studio space with lots of options for backdrops, I highly recommend ! And Roni - yeah, she cool I guess haha! But fr, she’s so amazing to work with + talk story with!! She’s always doing something in the studio so check out any workshops they have going on!

Sending love to all the mothers, mother figures, mama to be’s - you all are the some of the strongest, selfless + loving people I know! You are the glue that keeps schedules on track, your families organized + you somehow know where everything is. You sacrifice so much willingly for the joy of your family - I admire every mom I know 🥰

A special shout out to my cute lil mama…i love that she loves doing her lil shakas, finger hearts + peace signs. She’s my favorite person + my first call whenever I have chisme or news. She even listens to me talk about nothing…she’s generous + selfless - she’s always putting others before herself + 10/10 times, she’ll stop whatever she’s doing to watch me do silly things like swim in a pool 🤭

Happy May Day aka Lei Day!! I definitely need to share more of this intimate celebration but I loved every little detail of S + D’s wedding. Can you believe they’re high school sweeties?! I think they could still pass as seniors- maybe super seniors….D’s stache gives it away 🤭

I love working with couples who are so intentional about incorporating personal + familial details that were specific to them as individuals as well as a couple. Plus, if you throw in a hula, 10 outta 10 times I’m crying beyond the lens - maybe I’m biased because I danced at my own but each dance shares it’s own story that’s special to the couple + I’ll never not be sentimental about it!

Remember these two elopers from last months post? Welllll here’s Part 2!!

Imagine I’m chillin at home + I noticed she didn’t DL her wedding gallery so I shoot her a text like “Hey girl, do you hate your photos or what?” We figured out what the confusion was + then she hits me with “oh btw..:” WHAT?!I After the initial excitement- we get to planning this lowkey announcement shoot. The rain kind of ruined the plans for a bit but we finally got together + ahhhhhh! NO CAN HANDLE THE CUTENESSSS!!

Congratulations J+S! You both are gonna be the coolest parents + I cannot wait to celebrate you some more + all your life milestones…but for now, I LOVE this mama era you’re in! XOXO 😘

Also - thanks for indulging my terrible video concept but I loved how it turned out 🤭

Creative funk - How do you approach digging yourself out of one?

I mentioned in my earlier post that I found myself weighed down in the constant barrage of negative news. It’s easy to live there sometimes you know? Easy to just let rage + disappointment consume you - wonder what’s the point in creating anything when there’s so many more important matters that need a light shone on it.

BUT…there’s beauty + restoration built in creating. The renewal + excitement in trying different things to add to your technique - the opportunity to learn new methods in how to embrace things that aren’t in your comfort zone. This was an impromptu shoot with but it served several purposes that we both needed to explore for the sake of our respective paths. We were exchanging texts about what we wanted to accomplish (generally) + we just set a date + with minimal props + planning - we just went for it! We wanted chill organic images while playing with movement…

Overall, we were really happy with how everything turned out + ended up celebrating with a quesabirria taco plate from Disneyland + a firework show 🤭 maybe a late night ice cream float was included too

When the weight of everything around you feels heavy + you just read bad news after bad news - it’s easy to feel hopeless + uninspired to do anything but doomscroll. But if anyone was watching last night, you’ll remember he blasted “The Only Thing More Powerful Than Hate is Love” + I’m reminded I’m blessed to have the joy of capturing love in all its forms ♥️

This elopement was truly a gift as a J + S’s love story had a lot of depth woven into it. Love enveloped these two so much that I have an inkling a beautiful part 2 to this story is coming soon….😉

Because I’m still on the right date just 4 yrs late

Happy Anniversary to these two crazies!! I don’t know that I ever got around to actually dedicating a post to them + I KNOW I need to be better with social so better late than never??

Honestly, it was such a joyful day full of so much love by friends + family! Personally, we’ve known T+ D since nearly their Day 1 + it was such an honor to celebrate them!

Now they’re parents to the cutest lil grumpy boy (even though he did let me carry him without crying recently) + their first baby, Bely 🐶.

Let’s do this again in 6 yrs, yeah? XOXO

Kicking off a new year with new blessings! So beyond happy for K + T as they prepare to welcome their newest addition to their family this year! I just know the most excited one is Charlie 🐶 - he’s been waiting to get his promotion to big bro + I imagine they’ll be joined at the hip as baby boy grows. Someone’s gotta show him where mom + dad keep the good treats, haha!

2026 is already one for the books so far…starting with the flu that took me out + down last week, oof - that was my least fave way to start the year. Sooooo, what’s going on? What’d I miss - how were your holidays? Fill me in!
