Your website is doing one of two things right now. It's bringing you clients, or it's losing them before they ever reach out. For a lot of small business owners, the site went up once and has been drifting toward a digital junk drawer ever since.

A good Squarespace website works like a digital showroom. It shows what you do, builds trust the second someone lands, and makes the next step obvious. That's what I build for small service businesses: clean, clear sites that look like the quality of your work and actually bring people in.

I've got two builds wrapping up this month, so if a new site has been on your list, now's a good time to talk.

Save this if your website could be working harder for you. Send it to a business friend who's still running on a site they're a little embarrassed by.

The scariest sentence in small business? "I'll deal with it later."

Later is how the mess grows teeth. The leads pile up, the tools multiply, and the backend slowly turns into something you're afraid to open.

Good news: you don't need a whole haunted-house renovation to feel better. You just need someone to turn the lights on and clear out what's hiding.

That's exactly what a discovery call is for. We look at what's lurking, and I build you a plan to fix it, custom to your business and your budget.

No tricks. Just a treat for your future self.

Save this if "I'll deal with it later" is your whole operations strategy.

It's spooky season, so let's talk about the things that actually keep business owners up at night.

The lead you meant to follow up with three weeks ago. Still sitting there. Haunting you.

The invoice you forgot to send, floating somewhere in the void.

The subscription that keeps charging you every month for a tool you stopped using in 2023. It will not die.

The spreadsheet held together by duct tape and prayers, one wrong click from total collapse.

The inbox. We don't talk about the inbox.

Sound familiar? Here's the good news. Every one of these monsters disappears in the light of a good system. Follow-ups that send themselves. Invoices that go out on time. One organized place where nothing hides in the dark.

Your business doesn't have to be a haunted house.

Send this to a business owner whose backend is genuinely scary.

The businesses people trust feel human. This October, let's make yours feel exactly that.

Here's a fun one. Alongside The Simple Mouse, I run Broken Road Creative, my photography brand. This month I'm doing family photos and updated headshots for a handful of my clients, and there's still room for a few more.

➡️ Why family photos for your business? Because they let your audience behind the curtain. They see that you're a real person in the daily juggle, just like them. That's how trust gets built, and trust is what turns followers into clients.

You walk away with a batch of fresh, on-brand content you can use for months across your website, social, and emails.

Want in this month? Follow along at and send me a message.

Link's in my bio.

Save this if your headshot is five years and one haircut out of date.

Not networking with other business owners? You’re leaving money on the table.

Here’s what most people miss. Every owner you connect with has their own network. When they know what you do and trust you, they send people your way. That’s a marketing team out there representing you every day, and it costs you nothing.

And a referral is the warmest lead there is. When someone they trust points you out, that person shows up already sold. No chasing. No convincing.

So get in the room. Say what you do out loud. Your next client could be one introduction away.

Send this to a business owner who needs to get out there this month.

Let me pull back the curtain for a second, because I want you to know the person behind this business.

I'm a business owner. I'm also a mom to a special needs son who needs more support than most, and right now those two jobs are running side by side.

My son is heading toward a big milestone, and he won't step into adulthood ready to handle it all on his own. So alongside running The Simple Mouse, my real work these next several months is finding the right path for him. The opportunities, the support, the people who will help set him up for the life he deserves. It's heavy. It's emotional.

And it matters to me more than anything.

Here's why I'm telling you. This is the reason I'm borderline obsessed with systems and support. I built my business so it could run when I need to be somewhere else, because I always will. When life pulls me toward my family, the work still holds.

For me that is survival, and it's the whole reason I help other owners build the same thing.

I'm a real person doing this juggle right alongside you.

Send this to someone who's carrying a lot right now and doing it anyway.

Ready to invest in your business but scared of wasting money on the wrong thing? Smart. Here's how I'd prioritize when funds are tight.

1️⃣ Start with the foundation. Get your systems and backend solid first. A pretty website with a broken process behind it just loses leads faster.

2️⃣ Then invest in being found. A clear website and consistent content so the right people can discover you.

3️⃣ Then invest in staying connected. Email marketing to nurture the audience you're building.

The order matters. Each layer makes the next one work harder. Spend on the foundation before the flashy stuff, and every dollar after that goes further.

Save this before you spend a dime on marketing.

It's my birthday today, so I'm feeling a little reflective. Here's something worth saying out loud.

🎂 Success in business doesn't come with an age limit, and it doesn't reward you for being the youngest in the room.

There's a big MIT study that followed millions of founders. The average age of the most successful ones? Forty-five. And the odds of building something that works keep climbing with age, because experience is the thing that actually moves the needle.

I love that. Every year I get older is another year of knowing my craft, reading a business faster, and solving problems I couldn't have touched when I started.

So if you're feeling behind because you didn't "make it" at 25, let this be your sign.

You're right on time. You're gaining the exact thing that makes founders succeed.

Here's to another trip around the sun, and to being better at this than I've ever been.

Send this to someone who needs the reminder that it's not too late!

When your business runs on manual to-dos and mental sticky notes, growing just means more to drop. Alexandra was ready for something better.

Alexandra Coleman is a California trusts and estates attorney running a solo practice. We partnered to build systems that basically run themselves.

➡️ Here's what we built. We mapped her entire client journey, from the first webinar signup all the way through signing, funding, and a two-year review, and we documented all of it into clear SOPs.

➡️ Then we automated the parts that were eating her time. Follow-ups after discovery calls. A long-term nurture path for leads who aren't ready yet. Funding reminders. Automatic two-year review outreach. Webinar tracking wired through Zoom, Zapier, and Mailchimp. We even unified her calendar, and set up a repeatable newsletter with a master template. Then we mapped out an SEO blog strategy with a content calendar for Q4 2026.

➡️ The result? Fewer manual touchpoints, a client experience that feels the same every time, and hours handed back to Alexandra for her clients and her family.

That's what a real system does. It works so you don't have to hold it all.

Save this if your practice still runs on your memory and a spreadsheet.

Been running on fumes lately? When you've done every job in your business since day one, the business becomes an extension of you. And that's exactly how burnout sneaks in.

➡️ Here's the fix I had to learn the hard way: block time for yourself and your family on your calendar, and treat it like a client meeting you can't move.

Not "if I have time."

Scheduled. Protected. Non-negotiable.

A refreshed you runs a better business, every single time. Sharper decisions, better work, more creativity.

Rest is what lets you finish well. Build it in before you run out.

Save this and go block one hour that's just yours this week.
