Some of my favorite wedding photos would never make it onto a Pinterest board.

They’re the quiet in-between, the moments right before you walk down the aisle, your best friend playing music at your ceremony, and all the little moments you didn’t even realize were happening.

I’m almost 10 years out from my own wedding day, and THOSE are the photos I still look at.

I’ll always give you the frame-worthy, holy-sh*t-that’s-us photos 🤌🏻 but I want your gallery to feel like your actual wedding, too.

POV: you turned your engagement photos into a date in Chicago.

Because hear me out 🤚🏻 your engagement session doesn’t actually have to feel like an engagement session.

Go somewhere you love. Grab a coffee. Visit your favorite coffee shop. Get a little dressed up. Flirt with your fiancé. Make out on the sidewalk. Let me third wheel and document the whole dang thing.

The best engagement photos aren’t about finding the “perfect” location, knowing exactly what to do in front of the camera, or having multiple changes of clothes (even tho we LOVE an outfit change!).

They’re about creating a night that already feels like you two, and letting the photos happen naturally throughout the experience!

So yeah, consider this your permission slip to make your engagement photos a date night. 🖤

I got married at the courthouse 9 years ago today.

In Columbus, Georgia, on a hot August day, I married my best friend. What am I doing today to celebrate? Photographing a couple getting married at the courthouse in Chicago 🤯

9 years ago, because of the military and wanting to have a day just the two of us shared…. that led us to the courthouse. Sometimes I think about that young couple, and I wonder if they could have imagined all of this.

We’ve grown so much as people in these nine years. We’ve changed careers, moved across the country, built and rebuilt homes, experienced things that tested us, and created a life that looks so different from the one we had dreamed about at that courthouse.

But we’re still us and after nine years, I still want to tell you everything. I still want to laugh with you over things that probably aren’t even funny to anyone else. I still want to take the long way home to check out the houses, find a new place to eat, go to the beach, work on some ridiculous house project, grow something in the backyard, and share a donut with you on the train.

I don’t know exactly what the next nine years will bring but I do know I want all of it with you.

Here’s to the life we’ve built, the people we’ve become, and the two kids we somehow still are. ❤️

Did you know that you need to apply for and have your marriage license at least 24 hours in advance of a courthouse elopement? Both of you will need to be there in person to apply, and the fee is $60. (Note: The license is valid for up to 60 days.)
