It is with a heavy heart that I share that today we said goodbye to my dad.
For many years, he battled illness with incredible strength and determination. Time after time, he cheated death, refusing to let it define him. He was one of the strongest, smartest, and yes, most stubborn people I’ve ever known. He lived life on his own terms up until the very end, he always did what he wanted, and somehow made everyone love him for exactly who he was.
He gave me so much more than he probably ever realized. He was the one who got me started with photography, inspiring the passion that became my career as a photographer. He sparked my love of traveling, introduced our family to a lifelong love of Latin music, and taught us that life is meant to be experienced.
Born in Greece, he came here and built a life through hard work as a self-employed heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration technician. He serviced so many restaurants, banquet halls and business in the Chicagoland area. Fun fact, he also held 2 US Patents. He had an amazing work ethic, was a good businessman, and was always fair. He worked tirelessly to provide for the family, and his determination and work ethic were second to none.
He was also a true foodie. He loved our Moms amazing cooking, loved discovering great meals, sharing good food with the people he loved, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. If there was good music, good food, and family around the table, he was happy.
Today, I find comfort in imagining him reunited with my beautiful Mom. After all these years apart, I hope they’re together again, catching up on everything they missed.
Thank you, Dad, for the lessons, the adventures, the laughter, and the tough love. Thank you for showing us how to work hard, live fully, and appreciate the journey.
You will always be loved, always be remembered, and always be missed. Rest peacefully. We love you ❤️
