Can you picture your family in this?

Because I already can. Your littlest in their holiday best, holding still for exactly one second before dissolving into giggles. Your oldest flashing that grin you’d know anywhere. And you, right in the middle of it all, looking every bit like the warm, beautiful heart of the whole thing.

The photo on this year’s holiday card. The one that ends up framed on the mantle. The one you’ll pull out years from now and wonder how they were ever that small.

I'm heading to the beach this weekend for a pretty special session! Fingers crossed I actually remember to grab some behind-the-scenes content while I'm there, but if we're being honest, I wouldn't put money on it.

We were actually supposed to have this weekend's session last weekend, but the weather had other plans. Which reminded me of this sweet girl's second birthday session!

Speaking of plans changing, would you believe these photos were taken at SUNRISE and not sunset?!

We originally planned for an evening session, but with storms in the forecast, we decided to switch things up and meet at the beach bright and early instead. And goodness, I'm so glad we did! The light was absolutely dreamy, and we couldn't have asked for a prettier morning to celebrate her second birthday.

Apparently, the weather likes to keep us on our toes, but sometimes those last-minute changes work out even better than we imagined!

Anyone else ridiculously excited for the TWO days of cooler weather we're getting this weekend? And then it's right back to the high 70s. North Carolina, please. We're trying to have a fall over here!

We might not have all those gorgeous fall colors just yet, but the woods outside the studio are looking pretty dreamy if you ask me!

And speaking of the studio, I always get so excited when families want to sneak outside for a few photos during their sessions! That's exactly what we did for this sweet little one's first birthday, and I loved every bit of it. Plus, Momma borrowed one of my favorite dresses from the client closet, which made it even sweeter.

Don't mind me over here just reminiscing on the days when the studio was clean and not buried under approximately 47 Christmas boxes.

But if I'm being honest, I'm SO stoked to share this year's Holiday Mini setup with you! The boxes are finally getting kicked out this week, and I'll be sharing some sneak peeks very soon!

Until then, we'll just admire sweet Haisley's first birthday session and remember what the studio looked like before Christmas took over. 🤍

I have to be honest with you about something.

I've struggled to keep up with social media this past year. If I'm really honest, probably since becoming a mom. Part of it is time — there's just less of it these days. But if I'm being fully honest, a bigger part of it is perfectionism. Wanting the caption to be exactly right. Wanting the feed to look a certain way before I'd let myself post at all.

I'm done with that.

Because none of this is perfect. Parenthood isn't. Running a business while raising little ones isn't. Some days I get a full gallery edited before nap time ends, and some days I'm still in yesterday's clothes wondering where the morning went. Both are true. Both are real.

So I'm letting go of the perfectly curated feed and just showing up as this actually looks — a little messy, a lot in-between, and all real.

Thank you for sticking with me through it. The consistent weeks and the quiet ones. I see you, and I'm grateful you're still here.

Nothing bonds women quite like motherhood does. But these five had each other long before car seats and daycare pickups.

Now there are seven kids between them, and an unspoken agreement that no question is too weird to ask. Is this rash normal. Is my kid the only one who eats like this. Can you come get me before I lose it. They just answer.

So naturally, we put all of that in a studio together — the kind of energy that only happens when everyone already knows each other's chaos.

Can we talk about the outfit-coordinating spiral for a second?

You know the one. It starts innocent enough — "let's just do neutrals!" — and forty-five minutes later you've got seven browser tabs open, a pile of half-tried-on clothes on the bed, and you're texting your sister a photo asking "does this look like we match or like we got dressed in the dark."

Friend. I see you. I have been you.

Here's the thing nobody tells you about outfit planning: it's not actually about the clothes. It's about wanting everyone to feel like themselves while also somehow matching without looking matchy. It's a whole skill. An underrated one.

So here's my standing offer — text me. Send me the picture of the dress you're eyeing, the one you're not sure about, the "does this even go together" question. I'll always answer honestly, and I'll never let you show up feeling unsure.

And if you want to skip the spiral altogether? I've got you there too. That dress right there — the one in these photos — came straight from my client closet. It's stocked with bump-friendly dresses for mama in sizes S–XXL, and little outfits from newborn all the way up to 2T — every single piece chosen specifically because of how it photographs with my editing style. Soft colors, good movement, the kind of pieces that make golden light do its thing.

No stress. No spiral. Just showing up and letting the rest be easy.

One very underrated perk of a studio session?

The weather doesn't get a vote. 😂

When stepping outside feels approximately 400 degrees and the humidity has its own humidity, we can stay inside.

And in a few months when it's finally chilly outside (YAY), we can stay cozy in here too.

No checking the forecast 47 times. No wondering if everyone is going to melt before we take the first photo.

Just you, your people, and in this case, some really pretty florals. 🤍

Definitely not saying every session needs to be in the studio.

But on a North Carolina summer day?

It's a pretty nice option to have. 😂

First birthdays come with a lot.

The cake. The outfit. The party. The tiny details you've probably been thinking about for weeks.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, you're also trying to wrap your head around the fact that your baby is ONE.

The photos don't have to hold every part of the celebration.

They get to hold onto them.

That smile you know immediately. The expressions you see every day. The little personality that somehow showed up more and more over that first year.

This sweet boy gave us the biggest smiles for his session, and that's exactly what I want these photos to bring back years from now.

Not just what his first birthday looked like.

But who he was at one. 🤍
