A great location can add something special to a senior portrait session—and the stream was perfect for Travis! With large rocks, flowing water, and beautiful natural surroundings, we had everything we needed to create images that truly stood out.

Awkward Feeling?

Have you ever unexpectedly run into someone you were trying to avoid and thought, Well, this is awkward...?

Let’s talk real life for a minute.

Over the years, I’ve run into former students, friends, and people I know who chose another photographer for their senior portraits. Every once in a while, I can see that awkward look on their face—as if they need to explain their decision to me.

You don’t. Really.

There are a hundred reasons you might choose another photographer. Maybe their style is a better fit for you. Maybe your brothers and sisters all went to the same studio, and Mom wants to continue the tradition. Maybe my style simply isn’t what you’re looking for. Or maybe Uncle Bob just bought a new camera and is ready to give senior photography a try!

And the reality is, there’s no way I could photograph every senior, family, and child in our area of Pennsylvania—there simply aren’t enough hours in the day. There are plenty of talented photographers out there, and there’s room for all of us.

And you know what? That’s okay!

So, if we run into each other at the grocery store, a football game, or somewhere around town, there’s no need to hide in the frozen food aisle or duck behind the bleachers. Come over and say hello!

I’d much rather hear how your senior year is going, what you’ve been up to, what you’ve accomplished, and what you’re dreaming about for the future.

Because at the end of the day, I’m more interested in you as a person than in who took your senior portraits.

Whether I photographed your senior year or someone else did, I’m still going to be happy to see you—and I still want to hear about your accomplishments, your plans, and the dreams you have for your future.

So please...step away from the frozen peas and come say hi! 😄

And if you know someone who might need to hear this, feel free to share it. Maybe together we can eliminate a few awkward encounters in the frozen food aisle! 😂

Lilly | Class of 2027 🎓

If you’re a longtime follower of Gray’s Mountain Studio, some of these images of Lilly may look familiar. We shared a few earlier this summer from her session in this beautiful wheat field.

So why are they showing up again? This time, I’m trying something new—video!

I’ve been experimenting with CapCut to find new ways to showcase our photography, and this is my first attempt at putting a video together. There’s definitely a learning curve, but that’s part of the fun!

One interesting detail about this session: the deer had already created paths through the wheat, giving us perfect places to photograph without walking through or damaging the crop. Sometimes nature provides the best pathways—and the best locations.

Thanks again to Lilly, Class of 2027 at Pine Grove Area High School, for a great session and for being part of my first CapCut experiment!

Let me know what you think of the video. 📸🎥

📸 A great day for photographing hummingbirds!

The hummingbirds were especially active today. Unfortunately, the cloud cover made it a little harder to get the shutter speed high enough to completely freeze their lightning-fast wings.

Even though the plant stems partially hid the bird's body, I still love this image. It makes me feel like I was right there in the middle of the action, watching this tiny aerial acrobat at work.

The flowers are from what's commonly called the Firecracker Plant, and judging by today's activity, it's a favorite stop for hummingbirds and other pollinators.

Nature always has a way of rewarding a little patience.

A little AI research: The plant is commonly called Firecracker Plant, but if it's the one I'm thinking of (with long, narrow orange-red tubular flowers), its botanical name is Russelia equisetiformis, and it's also known as Coral Plant or Coral Fountain.

📸 Rieleigh at Work 🛟

There doesn't seem to be an activity or challenge that Rieleigh doesn't embrace. One of those is her summer job as a lifeguard at her local community pool.

It's also a perfect example of why we offer Bonus Sessions.

A senior portrait session captures an important moment in your life. Bonus Sessions allow us to go a step further by photographing the activities, passions, hobbies, sports, and experiences that help define who you are. Rieleigh isn't finished with her Bonus Sessions yet, and when they're complete, they'll tell an even richer story through images.

That brings us to something we believe deeply at Gray's Mountain Studio...

Every portrait begins with a conversation.

We'd love to sit down with you and learn about your interests, your future goals, and the people, places, and experiences that have shaped your high school years. Together, we'll explore ideas for portraits that tell your story.

Whether you choose Gray's Mountain Studio or another photographer, we hope you'll leave that conversation with one important realization:

Your story is worth telling.

We're in the heart of senior portrait season and still have room for a few more members of the Class of 2027. If you'd like to schedule your complimentary planning session, give us a call at 717-865-5154.

A special thank-you to Rieleigh for allowing us to help tell her story. We can't wait to share the rest of her Bonus Sessions!

Every senior has a story. We're here to help tell yours.

📸 Grayce Goes to Hershey! 🌹
Some locations never get old.
Gray's Mountain Studio has photographed seniors at the Hershey Rose Gardens for over 40 years, yet every session feels completely new.
That's because the gardens don't create the portraits—the seniors do. At Gray’s Mountain Studio, we take this responsibility seriously. We bring our knowledge of lighting, composition, posing, and camera techniques to combine these photographic elements into your senior portrait.
Grayce's confidence, personality, and willingness to explore gave us an amazing variety of images. The gardens simply provided the perfect backdrop for her story.
That's one of the things I love most about on-location sessions. Every senior leaves with portraits that are uniquely their own.
Every senior has a story. We're here to help tell yours.

📸 Exploring with Rieleigh!

A chestnut farm may not be the first place you'd think of for senior portraits, but it turned out to be packed with amazing photo opportunities.

When we discover a location like this, the challenge isn't finding places to photograph—it's deciding which ones to use! Sometimes the best approach is to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and create a few memorable images instead of trying to capture every possible scene.

In a few days, I'll be posting her Lifeguard Bonus Session, photographed at her workplace. It's a great example of how Bonus Sessions add another chapter to a senior's portrait experience.

Whether it's a sport, a musical instrument, a favorite hobby, a unique job, or another passion, Bonus Sessions help create a collection of images that tells the complete story of your senior year.

❤️ Which image from this session is your favorite? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

☁️ Sometimes an image starts with a simple idea.

I was sitting at my desk thinking, "What if I put a few storm clouds behind Zach?"

Then one idea led to another.

The clouds became a symbol of his strength and determination. Add in his wrestling accomplishments, and suddenly the image had a story to tell.

That's when the title came to me:

Every Storm Has a Name.

I'd love to hear what you think. Does the title fit the image? What catches your eye first?

🕰️ It's Throwback Thursday (TBT)! 🕰️

We're cutting it a little close... but it's still Thursday! 😄

This week's photo doesn't go back quite as far as last week's, but it was definitely taken before the pandemic. Do you recognize this former high school senior?

👀 And here's a bonus challenge: Take a look at the last image and see if you can answer the bonus question!

Hint: She's currently a nurse.

Here's how to play:

✅ Comment with the senior's first name and last initial
🎁 Everyone with the correct answer will be entered into a drawing for a secret prize
⏰ Entries close Sunday at midnight

Think you know who it is? Post your guess below!

And don't keep all the fun to yourself—tag a classmate, test their memory, and see who solves this week's TBT mystery first! 📸

🚨 Caught in the Act! 🚨
Keagan was caught trying to crack the code to get into the studio computer! 💻🔐
Fortunately, our head of studio security, Gramps (aka Glen Gray), arrived just in time to protect the system before Keagan could gain access. 😄
Whether he's keeping us on our toes or making us laugh, Keagan brings so much joy and energy to the studio every week. We're lucky to have him with us two days a week! ❤️
