I had planned to share this photo today with a completely different caption.

This is one of the last photos I took with “Beth Dutton,” my Canon R6. And this is my father-in-law.

He’s in his 70s, still spry, and if you ask him, he might even join you on the dance floor. But what he’ll do without being asked is show up when someone needs help.

This morning, he was up at 6 a.m. and drove over after a pipe burst. There he was, down on his hands and knees, trying to help. 🥹

For just a split second, it hit me that I couldn’t call my own dad. 🥺

But there was my suegro, stepping in without hesitation.

I will always be grateful for him.

My point? Take the pictures. Be in the pictures. Capture the candids. Don’t wait for perfect poses or special occasions.

Life is the special occasion.

Grief has a way of appearing when you least expect it. It reminds us just how deeply we love and how precious time really is.

So today, I simply want to say Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures. Thank you for the memories, the lessons, and the love. Happy Father’s Day to my dad in heaven. I miss you so much, every single day.

And please… take the pictures. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Life is happening now, and the moments we capture today become the memories we hold onto tomorrow.
