September is NICU Awareness Month, a month I never thought we’d personally be impacted by, but here we are. 🤍

There are so many things I remember about those days that I wish I could forget, and so many little moments I never want to forget. The beeping monitors. The tiny fingers wrapped around mine. Learning a whole new language of numbers and alarms. The nurses who knew him probably better than we did. The overwhelming feeling of wanting nothing more than to take your baby home.

So this month, I’m thinking of the parents sitting beside their babies right now. the ones waiting for the next good update, celebrating a gram gained or a milestone reached, and taking it one day at a time.

I’m thinking of the parents who have brought their babies home and are still carrying pieces of the NICU with them.

And I’m thinking especially of the families whose babies didn’t get to come home. Your babies are loved, remembered, and worthy of being talked about, too. 🤍

And to the NICU nurses, doctors, therapists, and every person who cares for these tiny humans and the families who love them… THANK YOU!

You hold families through some of the hardest days of their lives, and I don’t think there are enough words for what that means.
