In a rematch of last years County Championship series, Bellmore JFK defeated GC in game 1, 2-0 in 12 innings. The game remained scoreless into the 12th because of stellar pitching. GC’s Joe Carey threw 7 shutout inning, followed by 5 strong innings from Caden Lang in relief (1 earned run). Next game tomorrow at noon at Farmingdale State.

GC evens the best of 3 series against Mepham with an instant classic, a 2-1 9 inning complete game for Joe Carey highlighted by a ninth inning game winning HR for Matteo Fiore. Azan Durkovic drove in the first run after Skylar Lang tripled. Carey went 9 innings giving up only 1 unearned run and 9 K’s. The rubber game of the semifinals series is at GCHS on Monday at 11:00, weather permitting.

Trojans take playoff game #2 against a tough Calhoun nine with a 7-2 victory. John Luca Antico went 5.1 innings giving up only 2 hits for the win and Caiden Lang tossed 1.2 innings for the save At the plate, Chris Desiderio hit another bomb for 2 RBI’s, Fiona Ryan crushed an HR for 2 RBI’s and both Matteo Fiore and Jack Vessio went 2-3 with a run scored. Celebrating Senior Day, the Trojans clinch the top seed for the playoffs with a 13-1 win over Manhasset to complete the 3 game sweep. Brendan Ohl gets the win and Riley Quinn (2-3, 3 RBI’s), Justin Baiker (2-2, 2 RBI’s) and Chris Desiderio (1-1, 2 RBI’s) paced the offense. Playoffs start next Tuesday at home.
