Childhood moves in tiny shifts that somehow feel huge all at once. One month they’re working so hard to learn something new, and the next they’re doing it without even thinking.

I think my favorite part of this job is that it forces me to slow down and pay attention.

To the little things families do without realizing. The in-between moments. The way a five year old still melts into his mom’s arms for just a second before running off again.

These are the kinds of moments that are so easy to live through without realizing how much they’ll mean someday.

That’s why this work matters to me. Because these photos become proof of a season that would’ve otherwise passed in a blur. Getting invited into that space, even briefly, is something I don’t take for granted.

There’s something really special about family photos that feel like they could only belong to you. The kids are being themselves, no one is stiff or overly posed, and the moments feel familiar instead of performed.

I always listen to podcasts while I work, but with the heaviness of *gestures wildly* I decided to try to be a show girl this morning while working on some editing.

Clear video evidence of why I can’t listen to music while I work and that rage, sadness and joy can somehow find a way to co-exist.

Here’s to being silly to help cope with the sorrow.

Happy New Year!

At first I was pretty disappointed I missed focus on this shot but now I sort of love it. It feels like a memory feels. Maybe the exact details are a bit fuzzy, but the feeling is clear and unmistakable.

Only problem is deciding if I like b&w or color more.
