A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Kansas until 1 AM CDT

Thunderstorms are expected to develop over northwest Kansas then track southeast into central Kansas mainly after 7pm. There will be a risk for large hail and possible tornadoes early on, then the primary risk will transition to forward propagating line of storms capable of producing significant damaging winds of 70 to 90mph. Torrential downpours will also be risk from the line of storms.

A complex of strong to severe storms will move over parts of central and eastern Kansas this evening into tonight. The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging winds of 60-80 mph, hail up to golf ball size, and heavy rain. A brief tornado may also be possible.
