Every family photo that actually feels put together started with one decision: someone picked an anchor color before they picked anything else.

Not a theme. Not matching. One color that everyone else's outfit quietly supports.

Here's the formula I walk every client through before their session — pick your anchor, layer in 2-3 tones that complement it, mix your textures so nothing feels flat, and let one person's outfit lead the way for everyone else's.

I tell every senior to bring wardrobe options. Sometimes they don’t though, and the reality is, it isn’t an issue at all.

She brought one outfit and more than enough personality to make up for it. Some things you just can't plan for, and that's the fun part.

Outfits help, but they're not what makes a senior session good. It's the way you move, the way you laugh, the way you look at the camera when you forget it's there. That's what actually changes from shot to shot.

But a senior portrait should feel like the year you've been building toward, not a quick snap between classes. The light, the location, the way you actually want to be remembered from this chapter. That's a different thing entirely.
