DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND YOUR ENTIRE COCKTAIL HOUR TAKING PHOTOS?

Nope! 🥂

Especially if you choose to do a first look.

A first look gives us the opportunity to take many of your photos before the ceremony while everyone is fresh, relaxed, and there’s no rush to get you back to your guests.

We can often knock out:

→ Couple portraits
→ Wedding party photos
→ Immediate family photos
→ And plenty of those classic “everyone looking at the camera” shots

before you even walk down the aisle.

Then after the ceremony, we can focus on any remaining family photos, grab a few just-married portraits, and send you off to actually enjoy the party you spent months planning.

Because yes… you should get to go to your own cocktail hour!

And if the light is too good later? We might steal you away for 15 minutes at golden hour. 😉

A thoughtful photo timeline = more time celebrating with your favorite people and less time standing around taking photos.

We don’t expect you to just “be candid” on command.

And we’re not going to spend your wedding day putting you into stiff poses and asking you to hold them.

Instead, we use prompts, movement, and natural guidance to give you something to do rather than something to perform.

There’s enough direction that you never have to wonder, “What do I do with my hands?”

But enough freedom for your real personalities and chemistry to come through.

Because every couple interacts differently we want your photos to look and feel like you, not like a pose we give everyone.

A little guidance. No pressure. Plenty of room for the real moments to happen.

You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to fake a laugh.
And you definitely don’t need to pretend the camera isn’t there.

Our approach is a little different.

Instead of asking you to perform for the camera, we use movement, gentle direction, and thoughtful prompts to bring out the chemistry that’s already there.

The way you naturally reach for each other.
The look you give one another before you laugh.
The little mannerisms that feel unmistakably you.

We’ll step in with direction when you need it and give you space when you don’t.

Because the goal isn’t to manufacture a moment that looks natural.

It’s to create the space for something real to happen and be ready to capture it when it does.

So if your biggest worry is, “We’re awkward in front of the camera”…

Don’t worry about performing.

Just show up as yourselves. We’ll take care of the rest.

Short answer: no.

You don’t need to hand your photographer a list of every photo you want captured.

From the smallest details you spent months choosing…

To the big, once-in-a-lifetime moments…

To the hugs, happy tears, belly laughs, and little in-between moments you didn’t even know were happening…

We’re looking for all of it.

An experienced wedding photographer knows what to anticipate, where to be, and what moments matter without you having to think about a checklist on your wedding day. It’s the art of noticing.

Your job is to be present.

Our job is to make sure you remember it.

The one exception?
Let us know about anything specific to you that we wouldn’t otherwise know, for example, a sentimental detail, a special person, a family tradition, or a meaningful moment you have planned.

For everything else, trust us. We’ve got you covered!

Those wedding shoes you’ve been dreaming about and can’t wait to wear might look amazing, but after hours of standing, walking, photos, and dancing… your feet may have other plans. 🤪

Pack an extra pair of comfortable shoes—sneakers, flats, sandals, or anything you know you can happily dance in all night.

Keep them somewhere easy to grab so you can switch after your ceremony or formal photos.

Your feet will thank you, and you’ll be much more likely to stay on the dance floor instead of sitting on the sidelines.

First look or aisle reveal?

It’s one of the biggest questions couples have when planning their wedding day!

A first look gives you a quiet moment together before the ceremony. Just the two of you, away from all the excitement. It can help calm those pre-ceremony nerves, give you more time together, and even allow us to get some of your portraits done before the ceremony.

It also gives us the opportunity to knock out bridal party photos, and even many of your family photos.

Why does that matter?

Instead of spending much of cocktail hour taking photos, you can actually go enjoy it. Grab a drink, hug your people, eat the appetizers you paid for, and spend more time with the guests who came to celebrate you.

An aisle reveal, on the other hand, gives you that anticipation of waiting until the ceremony to see each other for the first time. And there is something incredibly special about that moment.

Neither choice is better. It really comes down to what matters most to you.

Do you want to save that first moment for the aisle? Or would you rather have more time together throughout the day and more time with your guests after the ceremony?

And remember: doing a first look doesn’t mean your aisle moment won’t be emotional. Seeing each other privately beforehand and seeing each other moments before you get married are two completely different feelings.
