This chapter in Deuteronomy has been softening me in so many ways. That as we lean in, listening for the voice of our Father, knowing and recognizing His gentle voice, obeying Him, following Him… He is so quick to show us His kindness. Many of you may not know I have lived my life with a lot of unknowns due to a rare arterial vascular anomaly in my dominant hand and as I’ve gotten older, the worse it continues to get, the greater the unknowns become, the more debilitating the pain is, the more risky the treatments are. Our kids are a miracle, I always longed for a big family and some days the grief of no more kids weighs heavy on me, the grief of what I can and can’t accomplish in a day because the crippling chronic pain and lack of mobility in my dominant hand affects so much. The questions of maybe if I remove my arm that would take away the pain… and Jesus has just been softening me, showing me so much mercy and manna each morning. Each day I get to use my hand, I get to wrap them both around my kids and pull them close, what a blessing that is. Each year I’ve gotten to pick up my camera for another season, what a miracle. I think sometimes we wait for a big, epic miracle when we’re in a waiting season or an unknown season, when really, there are miracles every day, we just need to slow down enough to recognize the million little miracles. As I sat in an appt last week watching the chambers in my heart on the screen, and was told these tiny, intricate flaps beat twice for every one heart beat, my whole perspective shifted, what a miracle each breath is. So if you’re waiting for a miracle today, I pray you can pause and find the million tiny ones still happening. They’re there in the waiting ✨

I’ve taken a little step back from social media lately to look down less and look up more. To be more grounded, more present. And some days I worry this business will fail because I haven’t posted enough reels or shared enough photos or spent the day on stories, but I just have to remind myself that’s just simply not true and we all went so many years without this silly app :) aaaanyways!! Today and every day it’s easy to celebrate life with this guy. My favorite person, my best friend. Today we celebrate eleven years married and I’m so proud of that. What a joy it is to be his wife, to get to be his biggest fan, to watch him be the best dad to our kids, for him to be the one by my side through everything, and to make medical trips to Seattle as date-worthy and fun as possible, even in the midst of difficult appts. I like to imagine we snuck away last weekend for just a fun getaway, but majority of the time was in dr appts and somehow, with you, it was still the most fun. Someday maybe I’ll share more of this season of life in in, learning and growing and stretching me and grieving and living in chronic pain with difficult lifelong challenges (and if that’s you, too, I see you) … and probably why I don’t show up here much on social media lately, because it’s just easier to be present with what’s right in front of me. There’s so much beauty to be found in each day, sometimes we just have to slow down enough to recognize it. I’ve been in a season of slow, of healing, and I’m immensely grateful for my very best friend to walk through life with, to laugh with, to travel with, run with, and be with. You’re my forever favorite, and God’s greatest gift to me and our kids and everyone who knows you… I love you so much, happy anniversary my love! 🤩

Chelan : the iconic destination that’s been drawing people to visit, linger, stay awhile…and create lifelong memories. If this bridge could talk, I’m sure it would have a lot to say 🥹 This little town is a gem, so grateful to call it home!! Can’t WAIT to celebrate Megan and David’s day at this summer!!! 🤍

I see pictures like these from this session a few weeks ago, especially the third and forth…and all I see is a father daughter dance in 20 years, because life just goes so fast and these moments are so, so worth saving. Every photo I take is with intention, pause, watching behind the camera for a moment like these, one’s you’ll look back on in a decade and still feel something, remembering your littles and their toddler laugh, the way a silly raspberry kiss made the burst out into giggles, or how important *that* rock was to put in their pocket. I treasure sessions like these so much 🥹

Their family first reached out to me in the summer of 2020 for extended family photos. I’m pretty sure at that point there were only three grandkids and fast forward six years, I’ve gotten to be a part of TWO weddings, photograph sooo many different seasons, and now there’s eight grandkids and I’ve gotten to know all of them and call them dear, dear friends, and look forward to their family photos every single summer. The grandkids know me as “Miss Emily” and they travel to Chelan from CA every summer… This* is why it’s so much more than just taking pretty photos … it’s always been about the relationships to me. The friendships I get to form, and the connections I get to keep. Almost every shoot, whether it’s a new client or a repeat family, “hey, you know ____!” …and I just LOVE that. So with every photo taken, know there’s intention behind every one. Because as I get to know your family, I know the relationships, the moments that will mean something, and that’s so special to me, to help curate those special images you’ll treasure. ❤️

Summer morning family sessions are unmatched…the kids are pumped to spend the rest of the day playing in the water, the sun is warm but not-too-hot, and I have some locations all around Lake Chelan that give us pockets of glowy light that I loooooove!! I’ve watched this precious family grow up, from photos of their little girl as a baby on their porch here at their Lake Chelan house, and it’s not lost on me what a special honor it is to get to spend year after year with so many families like theirs!! It’s hard to put into words how much I treasure this time spent with your family, capturing the stage of life your kids are in. Photos like these are what I hope become treasures to look back on, it’s a joy to get to freeze these moments!!!

I posted a story yesterday and it was the most responses I’ve gotten on a story in months. I think we’re all just over social media…craving something real. It’s hard to filter it all these days… Or maybe it’s just me. It’s so hard to not find yourself comparing when you’re in a drought season and it looks like everyone around you is in a downpour of replenishing. It’s hard not to become apathetic when you don’t see any reward after so much investment. It’s hard to keep going when all you want to do is really just sit and stare at a wall, willing things to be something different than what is. It’s like when the *one* thing we are praying for isn’t being answered, it becomes difficult to see the 1000 other answered prayers right around us. To see the goodness of God even in the middle of unanswered prayers…that has been my daily prayer lately. Jesus let me see Your faithfulness today. Someone told me about a month ago that when she felt weary, overwhelmed by the “unsure how we’re gonna get through this”, she’d just go to bed. And her prayer was “ok God, I can’t do this. What are You gonna do about it while I’m sleeping?” And it’s made me want to be more like that…I think I’ve always thought of myself as an “independent, I can do it myself and if not, I’ll figure out a way” person, like it’s some sort of award I carry for being so independent, but when I’ve found myself literally, physically unable to carry things or do things because of some medical stuff…man that’ll give you a humility check real quick. I’ve found myself saying “God what are You doing about this?” And not just that… also asking “God what are You trying to teach me in this?” Less independence, more dependence on Him. That I will see His faithfulness, that I’ll be a little more like the sparrow, less worried about tomorrow, more present in today. Thanks for letting me share my heart today 🤍
