Today was my last true family session of 2024. I have a bunch of editing, a few newborn sessions and a headshot series I'll be doing before the new year, but... I always like to take time to reflect on this very busy season of my life.
This was my busiest family season in ten years- with over 70 sessions. What started off as a dream encouraged from my father over a decade ago, has turned into something full time and as he, a musician, always said, if you can do a job you love full time in the arts- you've found heaven on earth.
This season, I also took on many hours in October as an election worker during early voting and on election day. Regardless of the outcome of the election, the hope and energy I saw in the faces that came to early voting, I brought with me as I'd meet your families in the evening.
I edited each night until the wee hours along with my favorite soundtracks (Gregory Alan Isakov always gets me through this season- although I'm on a bit of Wicked kick this week obviously)- and ate way too much popcorn in front of the computer (see you in the new year, gym).
I spent all the free moments I had with my supportive family *especially my husband, sometimes feeling like passing ships as I headed out to catch the golden light and rushed home to make it just in time to read to the boys. I look forward to slowing down over the next month.
I laughed and cried to myself after sessions, a reminder of how lucky I am to do this, to feel this deeply for something.
Thank you to everyone who brought your families to me this season and trusted me with your memories. If you didn't snag a fall spot (there is only so much time...), please reach out about Spring.
Happy Holidays and I am so grateful for all of you.
