Those numbers on your lens? Yeah, they're confusing!

F-stops, focal lengths, aperture values... it all looks overwhelming when you're staring at your new camera wondering what any of it means.

You don't need to memorize all of it. You just need to understand what each one *does* so you can make intentional choices instead of just guessing.

This, and more, is exactly what we cover in Beginning Camera.

Classes start January 22 (day) and January 26 (evening).

Evening class: https://canvas.artscenterlive.org/classes/124

Got a new camera and now you’re staring at it like… cool. Love this for me. Now what.
If you want a calm, practical start, I’m teaching Beginning Camera at ArtsCenter this winter.
We’ll cover the stuff that actually helps: how to get sharp photos, what shutter speed/aperture/ISO actually do in real life, and how to stop guessing every time the light changes.
Two options:
Day class starts Jan 22.
Evening class starts Jan 26.

Tiny details, big difference: try these today.

Ever walk past a foxglove, a curled fern, or a dandelion puff and wish you could capture all that detail? Here’s the thing: even your phone camera can do wonders if you know what to look for. It’s all about light, texture, and getting just a little closer than feels normal.

Next time you’re out for a walk, pick one plant—try these three tips, and see what you notice. (Bonus: it’s surprisingly calming.)

Wrapping up my Carolina Photo Expo series with 3 things I learned from Joe McNally:

1. He's shot things I didn't even know existed.
2. Sometimes the end result doesn't matter—just the opportunity does.
3. Shooting for the love of photography is a completely valid career :)

Learned this at the Carolina Photo Expo (ppofnc.com/carolina-photo-expo). If you want some serious inspiration, check out Joe's work: joemcnally.com

Continuing Learning, Part 2!

Here are 3 things I learned from Justin Kase Condor:

1. Treat every opportunity as a stepping stone to the next.
2. Business treatments should say and show what you can do.
3. There are tons of websites out there to help—you don't have to reinvent the wheel :)

All these tips were shared by Justin himself: https://jkase.com/

I learned it all at https://ppofnc.com/carolina-photo-expo/

Grateful for all the ways learning keeps me on my toes. Watch for part 3 soon!
