When I think about my own relationship with my mom and how much of her I still carry with me even though she isn’t physically here anymore, I understand more and more just how deeply a mother can become a part of you.

There are pieces of her in who I am, in how I love, and in the way I mother my own girls. 🤍

A love letter to womanhood 💌

We face different expectations and judgments, different kinds of pain and pressure, different joys and heartbreaks. There’s a shared understanding between women that can be hard to put into words.

And still, we find ways to laugh, love, grow, reinvent ourselves, and celebrate each other.

Stephanie’s photoshoot felt like a beautiful example of that. She chose to celebrate a new chapter with a day of getting pampered, playing dress-up, and simply enjoying being a woman. No reason needed other than wanting to celebrate herself.

So, here’s to us! To the strength, softness, complexity, and beauty of being a woman. 💓

Before she’s a teenager…

Before the growing pains, the changing interests, and the next chapter begins… there’s this beautiful in-between.

She’s not quite the little girl she used to be, but she’s not quite grown either. She’s becoming herself, figuring out who she is, what she loves, and the person she wants to be.

And somewhere in the middle of all that change, these years can become the ones we forget to document.

That’s why we love tween sessions with moms. Because this season deserves to be remembered, too. The giggles, the eye rolls, the hugs, the little ways she still reaches for Mom… all of it.

One day, you’ll look back and realize just how quickly this version of her passed. Don’t let the in-between years be the years you forget to photograph.

I hear mother’s say it all the time, and I’ve said it to myself too: “I wish I could freeze this age.” Not because I don’t want to see my girls grow, but because I love this time so much and never want to forget the little moments that make it special.

I already love watching them grow. I’ll love seeing who they become, cheering them on through every stage, and watching them become more and more themselves.

But I also want to stay present for who they are right now.

The way they still want to be close. The way their little arms wrap around me. The way they look at me, talk to me, and reach for me when they need comfort. The way they ask me to stay just a little longer.

I knew one day I wouldn’t get to rock them to sleep anymore. One day they would be too big to curl up in my arms or reach for my hand without thinking. One day they’ll want to spend their afternoons with friends instead of their parents. And one day, they’ll be building beautiful lives of their own.

And I’ll be so proud.

But I want to make a mental note of these moments while I’m living them: “this moment is special.”

I want to notice the way they fit in my arms, the sound of their voice, the little things they say, and the feeling of being needed in this particular season. I want to let myself fully take it in instead of moving through each day without realizing how meaningful it is.

Because I know it won’t last forever.

The moments that feel ordinary today may be the moments I’d give anything to have back someday.

So I want to hold them a little longer. Take the picture. Remember the feeling. Pause long enough to recognize, “this is one of the moments I’ll miss.”

Because it isn’t really about wanting to freeze an age at all. It’s about loving them so deeply that you want to be fully present for every part of it. 🤍
