Did you know… feeling awkward in front of a camera doesn’t mean you’re “bad at photos”?

Most of us aren’t used to having a camera pointed at us. Suddenly, we become aware of where our hands are, how we’re standing, what our smile looks like, and whether we’re doing any of it “right.”

That self-conscious feeling isn’t a personal failure. It’s a very normal response to being observed in a way that doesn’t happen in everyday life.

And it’s one reason photographs can feel so different from the moments we experience naturally with the people we love.

The discomfort isn’t proof that you aren’t photogenic.

Sometimes, it simply means being photographed feels unfamiliar.

There’s something about fall in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park that invites you to slow down.

The changing colors, mountain views, open spaces, and quieter moments along the trails make it one of my favorite places to photograph this time of year.

But when I help someone choose a location, I’m thinking about more than what will look beautiful in the photographs.

I’m thinking about you.

Do you feel most at home surrounded by mountains? Does your family love exploring together? Are you drawn to wide-open views, or would a quiet trail tucked into the trees feel more natural?

The location should tell part of your story.

Choosing the right place also changes the way a session feels. When you’re somewhere that fits your personality and gives you room to move, explore, laugh, and connect, we can focus less on creating perfect poses and more on what’s actually happening between you.

And that’s where some of my favorite photographs begin.

A beautiful location matters. But a location that feels meaningful to the people standing in it matters even more.

Right now, I’m focused on being intentional about the experience I create for the people who step in front of my camera.

Not just the photographs themselves, but everything surrounding them, the conversations, the preparation, the little details, and the space I give people to simply be themselves.

The more I photograph families, seniors, and the people they love, the more I’m reminded that meaningful images don’t come from trying to make everything perfect. They come from connection. From slowing down enough to notice what’s real.

That matters to me right now.

I want my work to feel thoughtful and personal, and I want the photographs I create to hold meaning long after the session itself is over.

So I’m keeping my focus simple: people, connection, and photographs that feel like the stories they belong to.

That feels like a good place to be.

Some senior sessions hit a little differently.

I’ve known Audrey since she was two years old, which makes looking through this gallery especially meaningful for me. I’ve watched this kid grow up, and now I get to see her stepping into this next chapter and imagine all of the amazing things she’s going to accomplish.

And if you can’t tell from these photographs, Audrey brought plenty of personality with her.

That’s exactly what I want from a senior session.

I don’t believe in taking every senior to the same places, putting them into the same poses, and creating galleries that all feel interchangeable.

No two senior sessions should ever look the same.

I want to learn what makes you you. Your personality. Your interests. Your style. The things you love right now and the little details you’ll probably appreciate even more years from now.

Then we build your session around that.

Because senior portraits aren’t only about documenting what you look like at 17 or 18. They’re about remembering this wonderfully in-between season, who you are right now and who you’re becoming.

Audrey, it has been such a joy watching you grow up. I cannot wait to see where life takes you next.
