Happy International Women's Day💗

We carry, we hold, we grow, we bear. We laugh, we weep, we play, and we despair. We dream, we plan, we focus, and prepare. In each woman I meet and get to know, I discover a microcosm of the grandeur of the galaxies that are splattered beyond the farthest reaches of what is now known to man. There are so many joys and so many sorrows, so much striving and so much growth, and most of it remains undocumented in our day-to-day lives while we wipe down countertops and grubby little faces.

It is an unspeakable honor to get to capture just a brief moment in time for the women I photograph. There is so much depth to each person who stands on the other side of my lens, and bearing witness to the world of the authentic love that was hand-crafted by these ladies will never cease to give me that sense of awe I have felt since my very first session as a professional photographer. And while I can't ever adequately document every moment and every milestone, I am so grateful to get to capture a moment in time, and the beauty and the joy that exists because of you🩷

Let me tell you a story.

I recently worked with the cutest little family. They had a toddler and a baby in the way, and they were on a tighter budget but wanted to document this season in their lives while they eagerly anticipated baby sister's arrival. Due to their budget, they chose my smallest collection, and let me tell you, they had a lot of favorites so the ones they walked away with were the ones that they loved and cherished so much, and it was so special to create the kind of artwork that they will love for years to come.

One of the photos they selected was of their toddler just absolutely hucking a rock. Eyes closed in sheer concentration, no smile, just a moment frozen in time a split second after a sizeable rock left his chubby little hands, with water droplets scattering all around.

And I LOVED that they loved this image so much that they chose it over tons of other beautiful, magazine-worthy moments. They loved it because it captured their toddler so perfectly in this tiny, earnest season of life, and I love the idea of that little boy growing up in a home with a framed moment of pure boyhood and knowing how deeply loved he has been in each and every moment.

Can I be real with you?
Autumn is always overwhelming for me. Yardwork, my kiddo’s birthday, and planning fall activities while juggling the autumn rush as a photographer in Boise, ID can be a lot. This year, I've also helped with an interstate move, photographed an out-of-town wedding, big projects at work--it’s a lot.

One boundary that's been helpful has been my new business structure. I've always been highly attuned to details, and carefully cloning out every stray hair on large galleries became unsustainable. I was on the edge of burnout.

When my clients choose their favorites, we end up with smaller galleries; editing these has been so fulfilling because I know my clients LOVE them, and I can help plan for each session and get high-quality prints. It's helped me remember what I love about my business: blessing mommas with beautiful artwork that comes from the heart.
