Asa Aarons Smith Photography I'm an experienced photojournalist who loves to shoot photos of all kinds. Many people may know me best for my work as a TV consumer reporter.

But photography is one of my life's passions. I've been shooting professionally since I was 16 -- long before I got into television. In 2010, I had a one man show at New York's Almanac Gallery. Founded by famed photographer Benedict J. Fernandez, the gallery supports traditional and contemporary photojournalism. Some of the images on this page were taken while I was producing and writing a TV docu

mentary on Poverty in America. I was pretty proud of the piece: it won a gold medal from the New York Festivals Awards as well as recognition for Investigative Reporting from the NYC chapter of National Association of Black Journalists. In a world full of noise, I’m always looking for the melody of light.

This is Beaufort musician Bonita Wreden, photographed using classic portrait lighting techniques I studied recently in Paris.

When I take a portrait, my goal is to reveal something the uniqueness of the person.

Tracy Anderson is a man of many talents. He’s a musician, music producer, and photographer. Most of all, he’s my friend.

I’ve always admired the connection he has with his guitars, and I wanted to capture that relationship using some of the portrait lighting techniques I recently studied in Paris.

I’m especially pleased with how this portrait turned out. To me, it reflects both his quiet intensity and his deep love of music.

This is the kind of portrait I love creating—images that reveal something genuine about the person in front of the camera.

This was a fun experience. Highly recommend.
