Roads to ‘safe zones’ jammed.

No fuel in 5 days, virtually no aid.

No proper sanitation facilities.

The situation in Rafah is dire.

“I have been working on large-scale humanitarian emergencies for the best part of the last 30 years and I've never been involved in a situation as devastating, complex or erratic as this.

Yesterday, I walked around Al-Mawasi, the so-called 'humanitarian zone' that people in eastern Rafah are being told to move to. More than 100,000 people have fled Rafah in the last 5 days and the stream of displacement continues.

At a time when people are being forced to pick up and move again, the lifesaving supplies that sustain and support them have been entirely cut off. Let’s be very clear – this will result in children dying. Deaths that can be prevented.”

-Hamish Young, UNICEF Senior Emergency Coordinator in the Gaza Strip.

UNICEF continues to call for an immediate ceasefire, for children to be protected and for the flow of aid and fuel.

Honored to be asked by a lighting professor at Laney College to host a field trip to my photo studio this month. It's a first ~

Here's a quick photo I took of myself while testing out a lighting setup in front of a custom Oliphant Studios backdrop back in the throws of the Covid-19 pandemic. The not-designed-to-be-photographed back of the drop is pretty sweet.

Honored to have photographed these talented artists + hosts after their event at Books Inc. in Alameda, celebrating Black men, boys and imagination. The illustrated books by Nancy Cato and Ajuan Mance are beautiful, and can be bought at Books Inc, in downtown Alameda. There are also copies here in our arts studio on Park Street. The ever amazing Jerry Thompson managed the event with Jeneé Darden from KALW hosting.

For the first live, in-person "Sights & Sounds," visual artists Nancy Cato and Ajuan Mance talk about why their new books celebrate Black boys and men.

So proud - great job Katherine and all involved!!! 🎯✨💖✨🫶

PROMISE from my debut solo EP for the alternative scene SONATINE DREAM is out today!!!!! I hope you love it as much as I do. Huge thanks to the brilliant musician and incredible engineer at for his gorgeous guitars and bass that added the lush atmosphere I was after. I remember like magic he and every musician on this album understood the textures I had in my head, and there was a verb plate that appeared at the studio and we used it for my voice, too! And a big grand piano, the old kind that sounds warm and haunted. This song is like the feeling of being inside a snow globe after it’s shaken up violently, a suspended era of time with the snow peacefully flowing and swirling all around into a new kind of slowness. I love how music takes us there. Please remember to favorite PROMISE and add it to your , , , radio streams and playlists! Thank you and and all involved for making this possible, and my release accountability partner . And leave a snowflake in the comment if you have felt that feeling of slowness after a storm! ❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️❄️🌨️

Today in Maine, my Uncle Will's memory and spirit are remembered in a Celebration of Life event, as he passed away this Spring. Though I'm in California, I hope that his community throws a hell of a party over there.

He was a standout in my family community for his positivity, humor, honor to the wilderness, and life filled with music - both creating and championing. These traits shine through on his last album "Just One More Thing... Before I Go," with the songs titled "Dirt Nappin' " and "Diners in Heaven." He played guitar and sang much of his life, being part of a band in high school and bucking the conservative rules on appearance... getting suspended because he wouldn't cut his hair. A story still spinning. His unrestrained laughter - such a gift.

Uncle Will understood about the width of human experience and how far kindness and support go. I think a lot of this came from his mom, my Grammy, who was known for flowers in her hair and gentle positive energy and gift-remarks, to the point that poems were written about her in Maine. Uncle Will always brought the light, with a wry smirk and upbeat nature to every interaction throughout my life. Never saw a cruelty or joke pressing on the back of others, which was a rarity in my surroundings, and was so very important to see and feel.

He fought on behalf of nature and animals for many years, as Director of state park system in Maine. In this vein, Katherine and I will be tipping our hats during upcoming camp and travel trips in that beautiful state.

For now, that feels like it fits. Uncle Will - thank you so much for your voice and actions while you were here on Earth and in all their echoes and ricochets in life and love and music and beauty. The world glows more because you were here ~
