Want family photos that feel true to your family, right now? Here’s a few things that can make all the difference.

Your children don’t need to behave perfectly, and you don’t need to make every moment picture-perfect. My approach is all about creating space for your family to connect, play, and be yourselves, with guidance along the way.

Some of the best moments happen in between the ones you thought you were there for.

Because years from now, I want you to look at your photographs and remember what this season actually felt like.

A new baby, slow moments at home, and a little fresh air in San Francisco.

I love that newborn sessions can move at their own pace. We can follow the light, step outside for a bit, and let the moments unfold naturally.

Some of my favorite images come from the simplest moments. Holding your baby close. Looking down at their tiny face. The way you settle into each other as you get to know this new little person.

You don’t have to do anything other than be together. Just the three of you, adjusting to
your new season.

They thought they were just playing games. I got to take their family photos.

This session was full of running, exploring, silly games, and a whole lot of laughter.

Their mom told me afterward that the girls had a blast, and her older daughter especially thought I was “super fun.”

That might be one of my favorite compliments!

Because the best family photos don’t always happen when everyone is looking at the camera. Sometimes they happen in the middle of a game, a laugh, a cuddle, or a completely unplanned moment.

These girls were themselves, and I love that their gallery feels like this season of their family.

A newborn session with a three-month-old and toddler, but really, just a Sunday evening with a new baby.

Bubbles, airplanes, toddler chaos, cuddles when baby needed them, and eventually a peaceful little nap in her parents’ arms.

With a toddler involved, I don’t expect a child to suddenly become perfectly still and cooperative because a camera is there. I want to photograph them exactly as they are. The running through the yard. The bubbles. The airplanes. The moments when they’re interested in the baby, and the moments when they are very much doing their own thing. The way they come back to mom and dad. The cuddles. The little moments in between.

The baby sets the pace. The toddler gets to be a toddler.

Parents don’t have to spend the session trying to keep everyone perfectly posed. Instead, I guide when needed and give families space to settle into their normal rhythm. Sometimes that means everyone cuddles on the couch. Sometimes we’re chasing a toddler around the garden. Sometimes the focus is almost entirely on the baby. And sometimes the image I love most comes from something I never could have posed. Your newborn session doesn’t have to look like a newborn session.

It can look like your family, just how you are in this particular season, with your new baby. That’s what I want you to remember.

A moment for the parents.

As we head into fall family photo season, don’t forget to pause and photograph the two of you, too.

I know the family photos are usually about the children. You want the running, the cuddles, the little personalities, the moments you know you’ll want to remember forever.

But don’t skip the photographs of just the two of you. They’re easy to overlook, but your children will want these someday too.

For the moms who want photographs that feel like their family, not a performance for the camera.

My sessions are built around play, connection, and giving your family the space to be yourselves.

For family sessions, that might mean running, cuddling, exploring, playing games, taking breaks, or letting your children lead us toward whatever has them laughing that day.

For maternity, I’ll guide you through the whole session so you’re never left wondering what to do, while still making space for the little moments that feel like the two of you.

And for newborns, I take a slower, baby-led approach. We feed, soothe, pause, cuddle, and let your baby set the pace. There’s no rushing through a list of poses because the clock says we should.

The common thread is simple: I want you to enjoy the experience while I take care of the photographs.

Because these seasons of your family’s life are going to change so quickly. I want your images to preserve more than what everyone looked like. I want them to bring you right back to what this season felt like.

Three boys, one beautiful garden, and a family session that felt a lot more like playtime than posing.

When you have young children, I don’t expect them to sit still and smile for a camera the entire time. They actually can’t! I’m a mom of two, and I’m realistic about what a family session with young children actually looks like.

My approach is simple: we make it fun.

I treat family sessions like playtime with a camera. We run, cuddle, explore, play games, get silly, take breaks, and follow the energy of the children. If your family is in a cuddly mood, we’ll lean into that. If your children are ready to run, we’ll run.

And yes, I will always make sure we get that everyone-looking-at-the-camera photograph, too. But I don’t want that to be the entire session.

I want your children to actually enjoy themselves. I want you to be able to relax instead of spending the whole session asking them to sit still or smile. And I want your gallery to feel like your family in this season of life, not a collection of perfectly posed moments that could belong to anyone.

Because years from now, I don’t just want you to remember what everyone looked like. I want you to remember what it felt like to have three boys running around, climbing all over each other, laughing together, and being completely themselves.

This Oakland maternity session was for first-time parents who hadn’t had professional photos taken together since their wedding. And they aren’t alone.

A lot of my first-time parents arrive at their maternity session feeling a little nervous. They haven’t had their photos taken together in years, they aren’t sure where to stand or what to do with their hands, and the idea of being photographed for an entire session can feel a little intimidating.

Don’t worry. You don’t need to know what to do. That’s my job!

I’ll guide you through the entire session, from where to stand and how to move to simple prompts that give you something natural to do together. You don’t need to know how to pose, and you don’t need to perform for the camera.

For these first-time parents, we spent an evening in the Oakland redwoods, taking our time and letting the session unfold naturally. A little movement, a lot of connection, and plenty of guidance along the way.

Your maternity photos shouldn’t feel like something you have to be good at. You just need to show up as yourselves and enjoy this season together. I’ll take care of the rest.
