Memoriał Kamili Skolimowskiej — Part 2

Trying to anticipate what comes next: finding the right position, following the movement, and waiting for that split second when everything comes together.

Sometimes it’s about freezing the moment; sometimes, letting it blur. Other times, it means looking beyond the obvious action and finding something unexpected.

At an event like the Diamond League, there’s always something happening, often several things at once. You can’t capture everything.

You choose, react, and hope you were looking in the right direction. 📸

Going into my first event at this level, I knew it was going to be a challenge. So much happening at the same time, incredible athletes everywhere, limited opportunities for each shot, and absolutely no way to be in every place you want to be.

I came with a plan. I changed that plan about a hundred times. 😅

But looking through the work now, I’m genuinely very happy with what I came back with.

I tried to capture more than just the performances, the scale of the stadium, the intensity, the details, the movement and those small moments happening between everything else.

There’s still a lot I want to improve, and after watching photographers who do this week after week, I know how high the level can go.

But for my first time at an event this big, I’m proud of this one. 🫡

And definitely hungry for more.

One thing that really impressed me this weekend was getting to see how some of the best sports photographers work up close.

The precision, the timing, knowing exactly where to be, getting the shot and then delivering top-quality images almost immediately… it’s no joke.

From the outside, you see the final photograph. Being there, you see everything that goes into making it happen.

It’s a real skill, and after experiencing it from inside the field, I respect it even more. 🫡📸

Always something to learn from the people around you.

There’s something I really like about photographing distance races.

For a few laps, the whole field moves almost as one, different strides, different rhythms, different stories, all in the same frame.

One of my favorite shots from yesterday’s women’s 5000m at the Silesia Diamond League, won by Nadia Battocletti . 🇮🇹

Sometimes you don’t need to isolate one athlete to show what a race feels like.

Starting with my favorite frame from today. I think it gives a small hint of what this weekend is about: the scale of the event, the crowd, the emotions, and world-class athletics happening right in front of you. HALFSHAVE 🔥

A huge thank you to Bieganie.pl for the trust and for giving me the opportunity to cover an event at this level. Now it’s time to make the most of it and do some great work. 📸

A proper all-day hike in the Tatra Mountains with Dawid. 30km through Ornak to Starorobociański and beyond.

I really enjoy this kind of hiking. Starting early, knowing you have the whole day ahead of you and just walking for hours. No rush, no pace to follow, just a long route through the mountains and plenty of time to stop, look around and take photos.

We got perfect weather for it, clear views almost the entire day and the kind of conditions that make you want to keep hiking a little bit further.

Of course, 30km in the Tatras is still 30km 😅 so by the end we definitely felt it, but that’s also part of a good hike.

A full day outside, good company, tired legs, lots of photos and a proper escape into the mountains. ⛰️📷

I don’t usually share much about my family here.

But I wanted to share this portrait of my wife.

While writing these words, I realized something. My Instagram is full of endurance athletes, ultrarunners, marathoners, cyclists… people who willingly push themselves for hours in pursuit of a finish line.

And somehow I had never thought that the toughest endurance athlete I know lives with me.

Motherhood is its own endurance sport.

Long days become long nights. Sleep is a luxury. Going out means carrying a bag that somehow weighs as much as a race vest, full of snacks, water bottles, spare clothes, toys… that end up been used only half of it.

There are no recovery days. No taper. No finish line.

Even if you get ten quiet minutes, you’re never really off. You’re already thinking about what’s next.

As someone who loves endurance sports, I can’t help but see the similarities. Endurance athletes choose when to race. Mothers wake up, and the race has already started.

So here’s to all the mothers out there. Specially my wife.

You may never pin on a race bib. You may never call yourself an endurance athlete.

But I think you are.

Athletics is measured in centimeters and hundredths of a second.

But those tiny differences create incredible shapes, expressions and moments.

That’s what I went looking for at the Polish U23 Athletics Championships.

Not to document every event, but to create photographs that go beyond the results. Images that capture the movement, the tension and the character of the sport, rather than simply recording the outcome.

I think that’s the direction my sports photography is evolving.
