Richard’s photography has been recognised in numerous international landscape photography competitions, including winning the ‘Best Landscape’ at the Banff Mountain Photography Competition in 2010. Over recent years he has changed his approach to landscape photography, focusing on the emotional and expressive engagement in the landscape he works to produce a more personal body of work. His work ha

s been widely exhibited across New Zealand, Canada, America and England in solo and group exhibitions along with in his own gallery space for seven years up until 2020. His passion for creating exquisite prints and his knowledge of fine-art printing has led him to become an ambassador for Epson Printers. He has spent time exploring some of the country’s most remote and wild places, working to photograph his response to awe-inspiring and unspoilt landscape. His views on landscape photography have been published in books and magazines, including a monthly column for NZ Photographyer Magazine. He has guided groups of photographers in New Zealand since 2010 and founded New Zealand Photography Workshops in 2013. He has a passion for teaching photography, working to motivate and inspire people on his workshops. He also teaches photography via a number of Online Courses and eBooks.

I'm a finalist in the 2026 New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year.

My photograph 'Threshold', of the Ross Ice Shelf was photographed in New Zealand's Antarctic dependency earlier this year. It's up alongside the other finalists in what's always an incredible showcase of NZ photography.

Voting is now open, and the winners will be announced at the Awards Night in Auckland on October 21st. Head over and have a look through all the finalists and vote for your 5 favourites.

Brilliant weekend at the Photobook NZ Festivel at Te Papa, sharing my Silence Folio Box Set alongside Craig Potton Gallery Moment & Memory Folio Box Set. Huge thanks to James Gilberd from Photospace Gallery for hosting our exhibition for the week of the festival.

I'm showing my Folio Box Set, Silence, alongside Craig Potton's Moment & Memory at Photospace Gallery, Wellington, as part of the 2026 Photobook NZ Festival.

Craig and I will also have our box sets on the table at the Photobook/NZ Bookfair, Saturday 8 August, 10am–4pm, The Wedge, Level 4, Te Papa.

On Sunday 9 August I'll be minding the gallery with Craig from 11am–2pm, and we'll be giving a short talk about the work at 11:30am. Would love to see you there.

What an incredible week in Auckland!

A huge thank you to the amazing teams at Epson, Nikon New Zealand and New Zealand Photography Workshops for making an amazing lineup of events happen.

Wednesday we installed light box panels of my photographs in the stunning new Epson Experience Centre.

Thursday night was Nikon Live — a talk on my recent landscape photography followed by photo walk through Auckland.

Then Friday through Sunday was New Zealand Photography Workshops Fine Art Printing Workshop — three days with seven brilliant participants along with Avinash from Epson to dive deep into colour management, screen calibration, and printing with the latest Epson printers. So many stunning prints came off over the weekend!
