Exploring the living carpet that coats the bottom in Campbell River. When I say Canada has more colourful reefs than most tropical destinations, it’s because of sites like this 💁‍♂️

Amazing fish life at whytecliff lately 🐟

Finally got out for a solo fun dive for the first time in many months. The garden has been so full of life lately I decided to take my wide angle. With schooling yellowtails, shiner perch & herring, when the visibility cooperates whytecliff really is hard to beat as a shore dive. Thanks Fabiola Ruiz Aguilar for taking your class by to model for me 😂

Basket star in the seymour narrows

Abyssal Diving Charters took Chris Thornton & I out for an exploratory dive on the west side of the Seymour narrows. The tides weren’t exactly favourable, & it seemed every time I found a spot I wanted to photograph we’d get hit with a crazy upwelling. Needless to say I didn’t end up taking many photos. The highlight was finding this basket star in a little pocket that seemed to be sheltered from the current. I’ve seen lots further north but this was a first for Campbell river.

Deep sponge exploration with Chris Thornton

After almost 2 years of having my tanks full of Trimix I finally got an opportunity to use it. Earl Abyssal Diving Charters told us about some deep sponges off a small island just south of the typical Campbell River sites. At first it didn’t look like much, but around 140ft the wall turned into a massive sponge garden. These photos were taken around 185ft

Unfortunately at this depth my Ikelite housing’s buttons consistently seem to jam. Despite the 200ft depth rating it seems the buttons start to jam anytime I take it deeper than 160ish. This made it impossible to check the results underwater, I just had to hope my settings were right & my strobe angles were accurate. Not my best work, but enough to get an idea of the site 🤷‍♂️
